A Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has stated that he does not know a controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky and does not have any business dealings with him.
In a viral audio posted by a blogger, Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky had claimed that he bribed some Economic and Financial Crimes Commission officials with N15 million to drop the money laundering charge against her.
In the purported recording, the crossdresser also claimed that her “godfather,” alongside the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, ensured she served the six-month sentence in a private apartment and not in prison.
Sharing his opinion on the development, VeryDarkMan alleged that Falana sought a presidential pardon for Bobrisky in exchange for N10 million.
However, the blogger, who appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions on Monday, apologised to Falana over his recent derogatory innuendos against him.
But speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Falana denied having anything to do with Bobrisky or ever meeting or speaking with the crossdresser.
The senior lawyer said he has assisted 280 convicted people both home and abroad in getting a pardon, and never on any occasion has he or his law firm demanded or received a dime from anybody granted a pardon.
He said, “Bobrisky never spoke to me, I have never met him, I do not know him from Adam. He was alleged to have spoken to my son Folarin (Falz).
“Yes, my son said this guy was appealing to people for assistance and called my son I think on May 4 this year – please can you give me N3 million to be placed in a special part of the prison, we call it the VIP section.
“My son asked him, are you calling me under the authorization of the superintendent of prisons? He said no – please don’t call me again, I am unable to assist you to bribe the prison authorities and be very careful since you are already in prison for an offence.
“Please if you are you are going to call me next time, you either do through the superintendent or you write a letter endorsed by the prison authorities and that was the last. Somebody now start releasing tapes somewhere and went out to lampoon and rather defame me by saying the guy has spoken to me.”
Embattled Rivers All Progressives Congress chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, made startling admissions about his involvement in rigging local council elections during the tenure of former Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Okocha, who served as Chief of Staff to Amaechi from 2007 to 2015, was recently ousted as the Rivers APC Caretaker Committee chairman by a Port Harcourt High Court presided over by Justice Sika Aprioku.

Speaking during an appearance on a Channels TV programme on Thursday evening, Okocha, supported by the Rivers APC National Working Committee, also claimed that Beke was also involved in the election rigging during the Amaechi administration.
“On the issue of whether I rigged the election, I did not hide it. I should be praised as a whistleblower.,” he said before being cut by the interviewer who told him that election riggers should be behind bars. “No,” he responded, “If you were an armed robber yesterday, and today you came to confess that you stole something somewhere yesterday. Are you saying that the law will now take a retroactive effect? The answer is No.
“The reason why we say and keep saying is because of what is going on as we speak. When you have an idea of a thing and you see the other person also wants to use the tactics that you already know. You will shout. That is the reason why we went to court.”
When quizzed about who gave the orders to rig the elections, he added, “Yes, all of us were together including Emeka Beke,” implicating the reinstated Rivers APC chair.
However, Beke who was in the interview with Okocha quickly dismissed the allegations, adding that the police would arrest him (Okocha) for rigging the election.
Beke said, “During the election, was I part of it? Have you ever heard me say rig election?” before being countered by Okocha who asked, “Are you saying that under the Amaechi government, you never participated.”
“I did not follow you to the election. I did not partake in any election whatsoever. When you wake up and confess and you want to put me there. I am not part of that. You rigged the election and we are going to ask the police to arrest you that you rigged the election,” Beke replied.
A middle-aged man identified as Odogwu Chibuzor was shot while attempting, along with other fleeing suspects, to siphon diesel from heavy-duty trucks at the Dangote Cement plant in the Ibese area of Ogun State.
Our correspondent learnt on Thursday that three other members of the armed gang fled the scene when security guards swooped in but Chibuzor was apprehended.
PUNCH Metro learnt from a police source in the area who craved anonymity for lack of authorisation to speak to the media that the head of the security unit at the Dangote Cement in Ibese, Egbunu Usman, reported the incident to the Dangote Police Post after one of the suspects, who had sustained a gunshot wound, was apprehended.
According to the source, Usman reported that at around 11:00 pm on Wednesday, four gang members, armed with a Dane gun and other dangerous weapons, stormed the 3 & 4 Section of the plant to carry out the crime.
The suspects, our correspondent learnt, each carrying at least one empty 25-litre jerrycan, had filled three before the security team swooped in on them.
As the suspects tried to flee, PUNCH Metro gathered that the security personnel at the plant opened fire, injuring one while the others managed to escape.
Additionally, a short video recording obtained by our correspondent on Thursday revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime during an interrogation by someone believed to be a member of the plant’s security team.
“My name is Odogwu Chibuzor. I’m from Enugu State, but I live in the Balogun community. Our group has more than 20 members, but only five of us were involved in this. We brought just five jerrycans. One of my friends mentioned that someone in our group had a gun, but I wasn’t aware he was carrying it.
“This was my first time with the group; I had never participated. We were filling the third jerrycan when we spotted the security guards. I was told they usually bribed some truck drivers,” Chibuzor confessed.
When contacted for a comment on the incident on Thursday, the Dangote Group spokesperson Mr Tony Chiejina, asked our correspondent to send a text message.
In response to our correspondent’s text message, Chiejina said he would find out about the incident and get back to PUNCH Metro.
“I will check and revert,” he simply texted.
As of the time this report was filed, Chiejina had not yet responded to the text message sent by our correspondent to his mobile phone as he promised.
But confirming the incident to our correspondent, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, stated that the suspect was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment before being placed in custody.
She said, “The suspect was taken to the Ilaro General Hospital for medical treatment after sustaining a bullet wound in his back. A brief video of his confession was recorded.
“The lone Dane gun used in the robbery has been recovered, along with the five jerrycans they brought to siphon diesel from the trucks. We are collaborating with other local security agencies to apprehend the remaining fleeing suspects.”
PUNCH Metro reported a similar failed robbery attempt in 2017, during which at least two suspected members of a robbery gang were shot and killed by police operatives.
The gang, consisting of about seven members armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, invaded the company, proceeded to the materials section, and attempted to steal armoured cables before being shot dead by the security operatives.
The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, caused stirs on Thursday after he referred to Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir of Kano during an event in Abuja.
Naija News recalls that both Bayero and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Muhammadu Sanusi, had battled for the Kano Emirship position some months ago.
Back in March 2020, former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje removed Sanusi from the throne and appointed Bayero as Emir.
However, four years later, Ganduje’s successor, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, dismissed Bayero and reinstated Sanusi.
Bayero, whose removal was announced while he was outside the state, returned to Kano and took residence in the mini palace at Nasarawa, where he has been conducting his court.
Subsequently, Governor Yusuf ordered the immediate arrest of the monarch.
However, rather than complying, security measures were intensified at the mini palace, leading to speculation that Bayero had support from federal authorities.
Reacting to the development, Aminu Gwarzo, the Deputy Governor of Kano, claimed that Ribadu played a role in Bayero’s return by providing him with two private jets.
Ribadu denied these allegations and threatened legal action against Gwarzo.
In a letter from Aliyu & Musa Chambers, Ribadu’s legal representatives, an apology was demanded from the deputy governor, who subsequently retracted his statement.
The dispute over the emirate eventually transitioned to the judicial system, with both parties filing separate lawsuits against each other.

While recognizing the dignitaries present, Ribadu stated, “Of course the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero,” which was met with applause from the audience.

Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, the controversial Onitsha-based cleric better known asOdumeje, has opened up about his past lifestyle.
In an undated video now making the round on social media, Odumeje revealed that he grew up in a dangerous street in Onitsha, Anambra state.
Addressing his congregation, the controversial cleric said he became involved in armed robbery and terrorism at the age of 14.
Odumeje added that his life changed through the help of his mother, who led him to Christ and helped him find salvation.
“I was born in Onitsha city. No 3, Nnewi street. And I grew up in a dangerous street. I became an armed robber at the age of 14,” he said.

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the last general election, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said Nigerians, especially the northern region, are tired of the current situation in the country.

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has openly criticized President Bola Tinubu for embarking on a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom amidst Nigeria’s ongoing economic struggles and insecurity.

A Gambian businessman has been reported dead in a tragic car accident near Ziguinchor, in the Casamance region, while his Senegalese mistress and her friend, who were with him at the time, survived.
According to reports from Senegalese media, the man had picked up the two women to drive them to The Gambia for a weekend getaway when the accident occurred on Saturday, September 29, 2024.
Local police and emergency services responded to the scene, where the two women were treated for minor injuries and taken to a nearby hospital.
The man, however, succumbed to severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities believe speeding may have been a factor in the accident.
The deceased's identity has not been disclosed, though he was described as a businessman who divided his time between Guinea-Bissau, Casamance, and The Gambia.

The Managing Director of Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Bismarck Rewane has lamented over the country's food inflation.
According to him, while the prices of other food commodities have recorded a minimal drop in the last few days, market prices of beans have significantly gone up.
Rewane stated this on Channels Television’s Business Morning segment of Sunrise Daily breakfast programme on Thursday.
“We’ve seen onions come down sharply to N115,000, and rice has also come down to N110,000; it was as high as N120,000. The commodity that is surprising to everybody is beans; beans has gone out of storage and out of reach,” he said.
According to market checks by our correspondent, traders sold a paint rubber of beans for N13,000 and a derica of the commodity for N3,000 while a bag of beans goes for as high as N180,000.
The economist attributed the hike in beans’ prices to recent flooding which ravaged food-producing states like Borno, Bauchi, and Sokoto, amongst others.
“Flooding has destroyed a lot of goods,” Rewane said, adding that the costs of moving agricultural produce from farms to the markets have also gone up due to a recent hike in petrol prices — from around N600 to about N1,000 per litre.
The economist predicted that food inflation would increase in the coming weeks but was optimistic that duty waivers on expected imported commodities would moderate prices.
“For now, despite everything, we think that inflation will still increase. Food inflation in particular will increase; headline inflation will increase to 34% but this is only temporary. When the imported commodities that we are going to enjoy the duty waivers come into the country, those prices will start to reduce,” Rewane said.

The NBS said the food inflation rate in August 2024 was 37.52% on a year-on-year basis, which was 8.18% points higher compared to the rate recorded in August 2023 (29.34%).
It attributed the rise in food inflation on a year-on-year basis to increases in prices of bread, maize, grains, guinea corn, bread, cereals yam, Irish potatoes, water yam, cassava tuber, palm oil, and vegetable oil, among others.
The Tinubu administration alongside governors in the 36 states has rolled out some palliative measures but Nigerians continue to be lamentably hurt by the severe impact of inflation as the prices of food commodities and basic products multiply uncontrollably.
French tactician, Hervé Renard, has revealed that he came close to becoming the head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

A visit to Autogig International Resources Ltd. in Gbagada, one of six centers selected by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi) for free CNG conversion, offered a chance to explore the growing interest in compressed natural gas (CNG).
With Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) prices soaring to over N1,000 per liter in some parts of Lagos, many vehicle owners are looking for ways to cut fuel expenses, and CNG is seen as a viable alternative.
But what does the conversion involve? Nairametrics provides a detailed account of the process based on insights from Obalanlege Oluwafemi Joseph, the CNG Coordinator at Autogig International Resources Ltd., and Shamil Chandra, Head of Operations at MBH Power Limited in Ikorodu.
CNG Conversion Process: A Closer Look
Joseph explained that the conversion process begins with an inspection to determine the vehicle’s eligibility. “Any vehicle with an internal combustion engine, which operates on the fire triangle—spark, fuel, and air—common to most two-stroke and four-stroke engines, is eligible,” he noted.
Once the vehicle is cleared, conversion takes one to three days. “The steps include mapping the vehicle for the best positioning of the CNG kit, installing it, and programming the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to ensure smooth operation,” Joseph added.
The process ends with a test drive to confirm the system works.
He clarified that converting to CNG does not remove the petrol or diesel engine. “The vehicle becomes a hybrid, capable of switching between petrol/diesel and CNG,” Joseph explained, highlighting the flexibility this offers.
How a CNG-powered vehicle operates
Once converted, a vehicle can switch between CNG and petrol or diesel. Joseph explained that the switch occurs after the engine starts, with two key modalities in the ECU.
“In the time-based modality, the switch happens within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle,” Joseph said. However, the timing can be adjusted based on the owner’s preference.
The temperature-based modality switches when the engine reaches between 20°C and 40°C, typically within a minute of starting.
Joseph noted that Autogig mainly uses the temperature-based system, while MBH Power Limited prefers the time-based method, which takes 15 to 30 seconds.
Both centers confirmed that CNG-converted vehicles automatically switch back to petrol or diesel when CNG is exhausted, ensuring the driver isn’t stranded.
The cost of converting vehicles to CNG
In Lagos, commercial vehicles can access free CNG conversions at the six approved centers under the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi).
This initiative aims to lower fuel expenses for commercial vehicle owners. Eligible vehicles must be registered with the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), or be state-owned taxis and vehicles with commercial plate numbers.
For private vehicles, conversion costs vary. At MBH Power Limited, a four-plug vehicle conversion costs N1.3 million, while a six-plug conversion costs N1.5 million. Chandra noted that converting multiple vehicles at once qualifies for a N50,000 discount per vehicle.
At Autogig, pricing depends on several factors, such as the vehicle type, engine cubic capacity, and the size of the CNG cylinder, which ranges from 35L to 200L.
“On average, the cost ranges from N1 million to N1.7 million, depending on these factors,” Joseph explained.
Dispelling safety concerns: Is CNG safe?
Safety concerns are common among vehicle owners considering CNG conversion. However, both Chandra and Joseph emphasized that CNG conversions are safe when done correctly.
“CNG cylinders are made of reinforced materials designed to withstand extreme conditions, far more robust than traditional fuel tanks,” Chandra explained.
He added that CNG is lighter than air, so in the event of a leak, the gas disperses quickly, unlike petrol, which pools on the ground.
Joseph echoed these sentiments, stating, “CNG is much safer than PMS. Because CNG weighs less than air, it’s practically impossible for it to cause an explosion.”
He clarified that the safety features of CNG systems, including pressure release valves and automatic shut-off sensors, ensure safety in case of leaks or irregularities.
The only potential concern, according to Joseph, is pressure explosion, as CNG is compressed to 2900psi (200 bar). However, this risk is minimized by release valves that discharge excess pressure, particularly during refueling.
“CNG kits come with a gauge that allows vehicle owners to monitor pressure levels at all times,” he added.
Both experts stressed that regular maintenance is key to ensuring continued safety and optimal performance.
The cost of CNG gas: A more affordable alternative?
One of the key reasons for switching to CNG is its lower cost compared to petrol or diesel. With PMS prices soaring, CNG offers a more affordable option. At MBH Power Limited, CNG is sold for N480 per Standard Cubic Meter (SCM).
“We sell at this price because we buy from Falcon Gas at N450 per SCM,” Chandra explained.
Joseph added that CNG costs between N230 and N260 per SCM at other stations in Lagos. He also noted that CNG has a higher-octane rating than petrol, leading to improved performance, fewer carbon deposits on the engine, and better emissions.

While the upfront cost of conversion might deter some private vehicle owners, the long-term savings in fuel and maintenance make CNG a compelling option. Commercial vehicles, especially those eligible for free conversions under PCNGi, benefit even more.
Possible downsides and challenges of CNG conversion
Despite the advantages, CNG conversion presents some challenges. One key issue is the weight of the CNG kit, particularly the cylinder, which can weigh up to 65kg.
This additional weight places strain on the vehicle’s suspension system. To mitigate this, vehicle owners are advised to ensure their suspension systems are in good condition or replaced if necessary.
Another concern is the space the CNG cylinder takes up, typically in the boot of the vehicle, reducing storage capacity. This can be inconvenient for drivers who regularly need the boot for storage.
Additionally, there are fewer CNG refill stations compared to the vast number of petrol and diesel stations in Lagos. This can be limiting for vehicle owners who may have to travel farther to refill their tanks.
These challenges, while important considerations, are manageable with proper maintenance and preparation, and they shouldn’t discourage vehicle owners from making the switch to CNG.
Where to convert vehicles to CNG in Lagos
The following centers have been chosen under the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi) for the free conversion of commercial vehicles. However, they also offer CNG conversion services for private vehicle owners and organizations:
- Femadec: Km 42, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Majek Second Gate Stop, Abiju Ibeju, Lekki, Lagos.
- Portland: No. 1, Ojota Interchange Terminal, Bayo Shodipo, Ojota, Lagos.
- Mezovest: KM 23, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Ajah, opposite Kilimanjaro, beside Libmat Motors, by Abraham Adesanya Bus Stop.
- Dana Motors: Dana Motors Ltd Kia Plaza, 117 Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Isolo, Lagos.
- MBH Power: Km 5, Itokim Road, Ikorodu, Lagos (Inside Hypo complex, after Lucky Fibre).
- Autogig: Plot 144b Gbagada Expressway, Gbagada, Lagos.
These centers provide expert services for both free commercial vehicle conversions and paid conversions for private vehicles and companies.

As fuel prices in Lagos continue to rise, CNG is becoming an increasingly attractive alternative due to its lower cost and environmental benefits. However, misconceptions about CNG safety slow wider adoption, highlighting the need for greater awareness.
Vehicle owners should familiarize themselves with CNG system basics, including reading pressure levels and maintaining the system properly. Regular maintenance ensures that CNG systems remain safe and functional, without negatively affecting vehicle performance.

The Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) organisers, have announced the nominees for its 2024 edition, with Nollywood actor cum movie producer, Femi Adebayo, securing seven nominations.
The nomination list was released on Wednesday at a press briefing at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
In partnership with the Lagos government, the 20th edition of AMAA is themed ‘Celebrating African Creativity’, and the award ceremony will be held on November 2 at the Balmoral Hall, Sheraton, Ikeja, Lagos.
While the Nigerian movie ‘The Weekend’, by Uche Okocha, clinched 16 nominations, Femi’s ‘Jagun Jagun’ secured seven nods.
