• Lagos, Kano, Kaduna lead tally
• Commission claims 5,500 enrollment centres nationwide, 15,000 devices
More Nigerians have been issued National Identification Numbers (NIN) as National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) added 634,603 new enrollees to its database, according to records for July.
The new enrollees swell the database from 101,013,279 recorded in June to 101,647,882 in July, according to statistics released yesterday.
Analysis of the July database showed that Lagos remained the state with the highest number of enrollments in the country, with 11.07 million persons captured. This was followed by Kano State, which recorded nine million registered NIN.
Other states that made top 10 in number of enrollments include Kaduna (6.3 million); Ogun (4.3 million); Oyo (3.9 million); Katsina (3.5 million); FCT (3.4 million) and Rivers (three million).
NIMC listed 10 states with the lowest NIN issued as Akwa-Ibom (1.7 million); Imo (1.7 million); Kogi (1.7 million); Enugu (1.63 million); Yobe (1.6 million); Taraba (1.46 million); Cross River (1.16 million); Ekiti (one million); Ebonyi (810,612) and Bayelsa (638,660).
In terms of gender distribution, NIMC data revealed that 57.7 million, representing 56.79 per cent of Nigerians captured in the NIN database are male. On the flip side, 43.9 million, representing 43.21 per cent of total enrollees are female.
According to NIMC, Diaspora capture is 464,624, where females have 192,567 NINs and males 272,057.
Director General of NIMC, Aliyu Aziz, said the commission has 5,500 active enrollment centers for NIN nationwide. Making the disclosure in Lagos, he said the commission also has over 15,000 registration devices nationwide.
He explained that from the database, 90 per cent of adults between 15 years and upwards had been captured, while the remaining were children, who were either in hospital or school.
He said: “As of today, the national identity database has over 101 million records and NINs issued. It has been a painstaking effort to capture good quality data, which we are proud of and can boldly open for audit.
“The active enrollment centres and enrollment devices have greatly increased to 5,500 centers and 15,000 devices nationwide. This has ensured widespread enrollment activities in many parts of the country including some remote areas and communities.”
