On Wednesday, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, arrived at the alternative venue of the State House of Assembly to present the state’s 2024 budget estimates.
This move occurs amidst the ongoing crisis within the State House of Assembly.
The budget presentation session is under the direction of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie. It is noteworthy that during an emergency meeting on Monday, the State Executive Council (SEC) approved the sum of N800 billion for the 2024 budget.
Recall that 27 Rivers lawmakers who are against the Governor had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. The 27 lawmakers led by factional Speaker Martins Amaewhule, are backing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who has been in a supremacy tussle with Governor Fubara. They seek to control the Assembly leadership against the wish of the Governor and the Assembly leadership led by Ehie which he backs.
He tagged the budget “The ‘BUDGET OF RENEWED HOPE, CONSOLIDATION AND CONTINUITY’.
