On Thursday, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) alerted the public to counterfeit and invalid employment letters circulating, falsely attributed to the service.
The NIS made this known in a statement by its Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Mr Kenneth Udo, in Abuja.
Udo warned desperate job seekers to exercise caution so as not to fall victim to the fraudsters.
According to him, the fraudulent letters falsely claim that the recipients have been offered employment with the NIS.
He said “the Service categorically denies any involvement in this fraudulent scheme and refutes the misinformation being spread on social media platforms regarding an ongoing recruitment/replacement exercise.
“The NIS shall continue to ensure that any unscrupulous elements engaging in this criminality will be made to face the wrath of the law.
“The public is hereby advised to report these scammers to the nearest NIS office or law enforcement agencies.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service recruitment exercise is exclusively advertised through reputable national dailies, television broadcasts, and our official website, http://www.immigration.gov.ng.
Udo said that the Service was resolutely committed to safeguarding the interest of Nigerians and upholding the integrity of its recruitment processes.
Nigerian singer, Eedris Abdulkareem has slammed Nigerians attacking him for his latest song, Emi Lokan.
The song took a jibe at President Bola Tinubu for making wrong moves that has brought hardship on Nigerians.
He slammed people attacking his song instead of condemning the governnment for bringing suffering on Nigerians.
He labeled them happy slaves benefitting from the government.
Eedris criticized the government of Tinubu for removing the fuel subsidy. He said a lot of companies left Nigeria due to removal of fuel subsidy.
He also slammed Tinubu for heaping taxes on Nigerians with unnecessary bank charges. He further lamented that the inflation has made it hard for the poor man to buy food.
Eedris also lamented that inability of the government to handle the forex market has led to hunger in the country. He further noted that banditry and insecurity has made it difficult for Nigerians to afford a good living.

Dangote Refinery has surpassed Nigeria in power generaton.
While Nigeria added barely 760 megawatts of power to the national grid in eleven years, the Dangote refinery doubled that amount and produced 1,500 megawatts in a shorter amount of time.
Nigeria has the capacity to generate 13,000 MW of power.
UGC Data obtained from the Nigeria Electricity System Operator demonstrated that, as of June 12, 2024, the average generation of 4,160 MW had increased by 22% from an average of 3,400 MW in November 2013 to the Distribution Companies (Discos) delivery to the Generation Companies (Gencos) via the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
But following construction in 2018, Dangote's oil refinery generated 1,500 MW of power—more than the entire country's grid expansion accomplished in more than ten years.
Aliko Dangote said this at the Afreximbank Annual Meetings and AfriCaribbean Trade & Investment Forum in Nassau, The Bahamas, “We don’t put pressure on the grid. We produce about 1,500 megawatts of power for self-consumption.”

FG gives orders to reduce electricity supply The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is set to enhance power supply to domestic consumers following its orders directing the System Operator (SO) to cap supplies to international customers by 6 per cent of domestic supplies. The affected countries include Togo, Benin Republic and the Niger Republic. The development comes amid a high level of indebtedness and non-remittance of electricity bills supplied to the countries over the years.
Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus popularly known as Portable has vehemently criticized media personality Isaac Fayose, alleging hypocrisy and insincere displays of love.
The “Zazoo” coroner took to his Instagram DMs to lambast Fayose in a tirade laced with heavy Yoruba expressions.

Nigerian singer, Anthony Ebuka Victor, popularly known as Victony says rapper Olamide, inspired him to make his forthcoming project ‘Stubborn’ an album.
The singer spoke about his encounter with Olamide at a listening party for the project scheduled for a June 28 release.
The ‘Soweto’ hitmaker revealed that the YBNL label chief executive encouraged him to make ‘Stubborn’ an album.

Everton have reportedly completed a £9m move for Aston Villa’s England-born Nigerian midfielder, Tim Iroegbunam.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. the 20-year-old looks set to be Everton’s first signing of the summer.
“Everton have completed deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam for fee around £9m, medical to follow,” Romano wrote on X.
Iroegbulam featured 15 times under Unai Emery last summer – including five times in the Europa Conference League.
Prior to that, he enjoyed a successful loan at QPR last season, making 32 appearances and scoring twice.
He also has two goals in seven games for England’s U20 side and is a highly-rated youngster that will bolster Sean Dyche’s midfield options.

Gunmen have kidnapped a pregnant woman, simply identified as Mrs. Ogunbunmi, in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.
Mrs. Ogunbunmi, who is due for delivery, was said to have left her home in Oke Lantoro, to the state Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
It was gathered that her husband, Ogunbunmi Lateef, said he had received a WhatsApp message notifying him of his wife’s kidnap by the abductors.
Confirming the incident, yesterday in a terse statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola said the suspected abduction had been reported to the command.
She said: “One Ogunbunmi Lateef of Oke Lantoro, Abeokuta reported that his pregnant wife due for delivery left home for state Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
“He received a WhatsApp message confirming the abduction of his wife by unknown armed men,” she said.

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation, an African non-grant foundation, says Egypt, Nigeria, and Morocco receive 61.1 percent of remittances into Africa.
The foundation disclosed this in its 2024 forum report, titled, ‘Financing Africa. Where is the Money?’
Published on June 18, the report noted that Egypt is the largest recipient of remittances in Africa, receiving inflows of $28.3 billion in 2022; followed by Nigeria ($20.1 billion), and Morocco ($11.2 billion).
According to the report, Africa accounts for 12.3 percent of global remittances, “with nearly $100 billion in 2022”.
“Approximately 160 million people born in Africa currently live and work outside the continent,” the report reads.
Their remittances, according to the foundation, support the living costs of an estimated 200 million relatives — representing a significant source of foreign currency.
“Compared to other regions, Africa accounts for 12.3% of global remittances of which Egypt, Nigeria and Morocco receive 61.1% combined. The ratio of remittances relative to Africa’s economy makes them an important income source,” the further report reads.
“In 2022, Africa’s remittances of $96.7 billion represented 3.5% of the continent’s GDP, the highest of any world region.
“In 2022, for 19 countries remittances accounted for at least 4% of their GDP. In four countries – Gambia, Lesotho, Somalia and Comoros – this exceeded 20%.”
When properly accounted for, the foundation said, hard currency remittances could be used to improve a country’s creditworthiness and sovereign risk ratings by credit rating agencies.
The organisation said they could also function as a source of foreign exchange (FX).
“Remittance flows could also be used as collateral to improve ratings of sub-sovereign borrowers,” the foundation said.
The foundation added that through the use of remittance-backed securities, several banks in developing nations have been able to raise more than $15 billion from foreign capital markets since 2000.
