Photographer, Firm Sue Jennifer Lopez $300k For Posting her Photos Online ‘without permission’

Jennifer Lopez, the US actress and singer, is being sued for $300,000 for allegedly posting copyrighted images from the 2025 Golden Globes without permission.
On January 5, Lopez turned heads on the red carpet at the prestigious awards ceremony, wearing a stunning white gown paired with a white faux fur coat.
She shared five photos from the event on her social media accounts with the caption: “GG Weekend Glamour”.
The images were widely reshared by fans and media outlets.
However, photographer Edwin Blanco and his agency Backgrid have filed a lawsuit against Lopez, claiming she violated copyright laws by posting two of the pictures without authorisation.
The plaintiffs are seeking $150,000 per image, totaling $300,000 in damages.
In the lawsuit, Blanco and Backgrid argued that Lopez used the photos for commercial self-promotion, including highlighting her fashion and jewelry designers to boost her brand partnerships.
“Ms Lopez’s unauthorised use of the Images is commercial in nature, intended for the purpose of self-promotion,” the lawsuit reads.
“For example, Ms Lopez used the Images to spotlight the designer of her clothing and jewellery, leveraging the publicity from the event to promote her fashion affiliations and brand partnerships.”
According to the lawsuit, Backgrid and Blanco previously contacted Lopez’s representatives, who agreed to a deal and payment, but the singer has yet to sign the agreement.
This isn’t Lopez’s first legal battle over photo rights. She faced similar lawsuits in 2019 and 2020 for sharing images taken by other photographers without permission
The Oyo State Government has said that the father of the student killed by a stray bullet in Ibadan was driving against traffic when the incident occurred.
According to a statement issued Tuesday by Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, the tragic event happened during a routine traffic enforcement operation along Alakia Road, Ibadan.
The student, who was on his way to write the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), was reportedly hit by a stray bullet allegedly fired by a police officer aiming at the vehicle’s tyre.
This newspaper gathered that the student was riding on a motorcycle with his father and twin brother when the shooting occurred.
Eyewitnesses said a police officer, involved in a joint task force with officials from the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), opened fire while attempting to stop the vehicle.
One witness, identified only as Ajani, said, “A police officer opened fire while chasing a fleeing vehicle. One of the bullets reportedly hit the student.
The student was riding on a motorcycle with his father and twin brother.
The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
Another witness corroborated, “The deceased was on his way to the examination centre alongside his twin brother when the tragedy happened.”
The incident sparked outrage among residents and youths, who took the boy’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi to demand justice. The body was later deposited at Adeoyo Hospital morgue.
Providing clarification on the incident, Olanrewaju said the operation was part of efforts to curb one-way driving violations on the Alakia Old Road, which had been reported to cause multiple accidents and injuries.
He explained that the student’s father was driving a tinted black Honda Accord with registration number FST 639 JU against traffic when he was intercepted by the enforcement team.
In an attempt to stop the vehicle, one of the police officers fired at the tyre, but the bullet missed and struck the student instead.
“The state government clarifies that contrary to claims that the incident occurred while the police were chasing a suspected Internet fraudster, the incident occurred during a routine operation against traffic infraction, carried out by men of the Oyo State Road Traffic Maintenance Authority,” Olanrewaju said.
“According to the government, OYRTMA officials, in conjunction with a team from the police, embarked on the traffic operation on Alakia Old Road following complaints from residents over constant one-way traffic violations that have led to deaths and life-threatening injuries on the axis.”
He added that the police officer involved has been identified and is currently under investigation by the Oyo State Police Command.
The state government has extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public that it will work closely with the police to ensure justice is served. Olanrewaju also urged citizens to remain calm and to obey traffic regulations.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has demanded an independent probe into the incident. In a statement, NANS National Public Relations Officer, Samson Adeyemi, condemned the killing, describing it as a “reckless and senseless violation” of human life.
“We call for an immediate, thorough, and independent investigation into the incident to uncover the truth and ensure that justice is served without fear or favour,” Adeyemi said.
“The officer responsible for this heinous act must be apprehended without delay and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Accountability is non-negotiable, and we will not accept anything less.
Furthermore, we demand that the bereaved family be adequately compensated for their irreplaceable loss. While no amount of compensation can replace the life taken, it remains a crucial step toward acknowledging the family’s pain and holding the responsible parties accountable.”
He also urged the Oyo State Government to act swiftly to prevent any potential unrest, warning that unchecked brutality by law enforcement continues to threaten public safety.
“We appeal to all students and members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding as we collectively pursue justice for the deceased and his family,” Adeyemi concluded.
“Together, we will ensure that this tragedy does not go unanswered, and we will work tirelessly to prevent future occurrences.”
A protest has erupted in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, following the reported killing of Emmanuella Ahenjir, a 23-year-old final-year student of the Federal University, Wukari, by police personnel.
Emmanuella was allegedly shot dead last Friday morning by unidentified police officers at the Wurukum roundabout while riding in a vehicle coming from the Gyado Villa area of the town.
The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage, has drawn protesters, mostly youths to the streets, led by prominent gender rights activist, Ukan Kurugh.
The demonstrators gathered in large numbers at the Wurukum roundabout, wielding placards with inscriptions such as “End Police Brutality” and “Justice for Emmanuella.”

A man simply identified as Esosa Imasuen has reportedly killed his wife named Chinwedu Nnadozie in Benin City.
DAILY POST gathered that the incident happened at Oza street in the Ogbelaka area of the Sakponba road axis of the state capital.
It was gathered that the man assaulted the mother of three and inflicted injuries on her following a misunderstanding between them.
A source close to the family said she was rushed to the hospital for treatment when she was diagnosed by the doctor of having internal bleeding as a result of the beating.
Speaking of the incident, the father of the deceased Everistus Nnadoze said he was called that his son-in-law, Esosa Imasuen had beaten her daughter and left her with serious injuries.
“They said he took her to the hospital where a doctor was said to have carried out some tests on her, and the result showed that she has internal bleeding”, he said.
He said she later gave up the ghost at the hospital before he could reach her, adding that he was not able to see her corpse.
They said Imasuen took her corpse to an undisclosed mortuary alone. ”I went to his house, they said he had absconded”.
He said he had been calling the son-in law to come and show him the mortuary where his daughter’s corpse, but he has not showed up.

As part of activities marking the second year anniversary of the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has earmarked 19 days for projects commissioning.
This was part of the decisions taken at the 14th Executive Committee meeting of the FCTA, which was chaired by the Minister.
According to a statement by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, “the commissioning of projects will commence on June 10, 2025 and will go on for 19 days.”
Some of the projects scheduled for commissioning are; the newly renovated Abuja International Conference Centre, Bus Terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi as well as Apo – Wassa road.
Others are N16 interchange and roads to connect Maitama through Katampe to Jahi, Inner Nothern Expressway from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa Road), CN8 from N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to Court of Appeal, N20 Flyover Onnex Kubwa Road and Life Junction to Ring Road III.
Also to be commissioned are Kabulsa-Takushara Access Road, Kabusa-Ketti Access Road, access road in Giri District,15km Road from A2 Junction Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council, as well as the Ushafa, War College, and Army Checkpoint roads in Bwari Area Council.
Also, the FCT Executive Committee has approved the award of contract for the upgrade of streetlights on Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I).
Mr Richard Dauda, Acting Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), said that the project was among the seven approved memos submitted by the FCDA for consideration.
He explained that the project involves the upgrade of the obsolete streetlights on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, a 14-kilometer 10-lane expressway from Maitama to Gudu.
“If you pass there in the night, you will realise that most parts of the road are in darkness. Because the streetlights have been there for close to 15 years now.
“The project was completed between 2005 and 2006, and the lights have become obsolete and no longer bright enough to lighten the road,” he said.
He said that the upgrade became necessary following available new technology in street lightning.
He added that a hybrid street lighting system would be deployed to brighten the road and make it more secure and more motorable in the night
The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Tuesday, arraigned two employees of Premium Trust Bank, Kehinde Odeyemi and Matthew Adeniyi Damilola, before Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Odeyemi and Damilola were arraigned alongside three other defendants: Samson Latshin Dakup, Bolaji Omotosho Yinka, and Sunday Badeniyi Okunola. The five individuals face a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit cyber-related theft.
According to the EFCC, the defendants allegedly conspired to compromise the bank’s IT infrastructure by manipulating its server and domain login credentials in a plot to unlawfully access the bank’s internal systems and siphon customers’ deposits.
The agency, however, intercepted the attempted breach before any financial loss could occur.
One of the charges reads: “That you, Kehinde Odeyemi, Samson Latshin Dakup, Bolaji Omotosho Yinka, Sunday Badeniyi Okunola, and Matthew Adeniyi Damilola, along with individuals identified as Humble (at large), Wasiu (at large), Isa Ismaila (at large) and another referred to as Victor Joshua Ilemona aka Oracle, (at large), conspired unlawfully between April and May 2025 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, to manipulate the access code (this included the bank’s server IP and domain credentials) of Premium Trust Bank Limited in a bid to gain unauthorised access to the entire database of Premium Trust Bank Limited for the purpose of committing an offense to wit: stealing from the bank’s funds, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27 and 28 (1) (b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc) Act, 2015 (as amended, 2024), which is punishable under Section 28 (2) of the same Act.”
All five defendants pleaded not guilty to the allegations brought against them.
Following their pleas, prosecuting counsel Zeenat B. Atiku requested that the court set a date for the commencement of trial and remand the defendants at a Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
Adeleke Adepoju, who represented the first defendant, pleaded with the court to consider bail for his client under liberal terms, citing a lack of time to file a formal bail application. Other defence counsel made similar oral pleas for bail on behalf of their clients.
Justice Owoeye, however, declined the oral applications and directed that all bail requests be made formally through the proper legal channels.
He subsequently ordered the remand of Kehinde Odeyemi at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, while the four other defendants were remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre
Days after he was declared missing, the body of a Lagos banker, Osemudiamen Idemudia, has been discovered at a morgue in the Yaba area of Lagos State.
DAILY POST had earlier reported that Idemudia, 26, who worked in the Point-of-Sale department of a commercial bank located in the Ikota area, was last seen on the evening of May 9 around CMS, Lagos Island.
A family member identified simply as Segun confirmed that the deceased was found on Sunday following an exhaustive search through several hospitals and mortuaries across the state.
“We have found Osemudiamen’s body. He was murdered. We found the body on Sunday in a morgue at Yaba with machete cuts on his head, face, and legs. I’m so sad,” Segun said.
According to him, the nature of the injuries strongly suggests the young banker may have been brutally attacked and killed.
Segun also disclosed that morgue attendants informed the family that the body had been deposited by police officers.
However, attempts to obtain further details about the circumstances surrounding his death, including the precise location where his body was recovered, have so far been unsuccessful, as the officers involved were not identified.
“The staff members of the morgue claimed that the body was brought in by the police but when we asked where they brought the body from, they could not provide an answer.
“They said they did not have details of the policemen who brought the corpse to their facility. That made the discovery more complicated.”
Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased had been buried by the family on Tuesday

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says operatives have commenced a manhunt for seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun state, early Tuesday morning.
Abubakar Umar, NCoS spokesperson, said the inmates escaped at about 2am after heavy rainfall damaged the facility’s perimeter wall.
Umar said Sylvester Nwakuche, the service’s controller general, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
The spokesperson added that the NCoS is collaborating with other security agencies and community leaders to recapture the fleeing inmates.
“The NCoS is committed to ensuring the escapees are returned to lawful custody,” he said in a statement.
“We are also working to reinforce the facility’s security to prevent further occurrences.”
Umar urged the public to provide credible information that could aid the recapture efforts.
He listed the NCoS response desk lines as 07087086005, 09060004598, and 08075050006.
In March, about 12 inmates fled the federal correctional centre in the Koton Karfe area of Kogi in an early morning jailbreak.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the minister of interior, blamed the negligence of some officers for the prison break.
Last year, 118 inmates escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger state.
Adamu Duza, spokesperson for the federal capital territory (FCT) command of the NCoS, said the inmates escaped after heavy rainfall weakened parts of the prison, leading to a collapse.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 Lagos State election, Dr Abdulazeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as JANDOR, has admitted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s calm and gentle disposition was a key reason he lost the election.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with the governor at Lagos House in Ikeja, JANDOR described Sanwo-Olu as warm, composed, and difficult to provoke — even during the heat of the campaign.
He said: “Mr Governor is very warm. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – he is truly a gentleman. There was nothing I didn’t do to provoke him. I poked and poked. But he remained calm throughout. This is one of the reasons he retained the governorship of Lagos State.”
JANDOR, who recently rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the visit was to officially inform Sanwo-Olu of his defection from the PDP and to discuss strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I’m sure it’s no longer news that JANDOR has returned to his original political family. We had a formal declaration at the local government level last Friday, and today’s visit is to inform the state’s number one citizen officially,” he stated.
He also expressed strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying his return to the APC will help unify the party and mobilize youth support.
“We are joining our numerical strength with that of the party to bolster its chances of winning. The house was divided in 2023, but now we are united again. Our goal is to ensure Mr President gets a second term so the baton can be passed to the next generation,” he added.

PDP Governor Eno Holds Private Meeting With VP Shettima, Says Tinubu’s Two Years Are ‘Wonderful’

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, describing his two years in office as “wonderful.”
Governor Eno made the remarks on Tuesday after a private meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking to State House correspondents shortly after, the PDP governor endorsed the performance of the Tinubu administration so far.
“President Tinubu didn’t create the problem we are in right now,” Eno said. “And for me, I believe he is doing his best and should be supported to see it through.”
Describing the President’s first two years as “wonderful,” the governor stressed the need for national unity and constructive support for the federal government.
He also spoke on developments in Akwa Ibom, where he said his administration has made progress in education, healthcare, rural infrastructure, and market development.
“When you come to Akwa Ibom, you’ll find that we are working. From schools to hospitals, to roads and markets—we are on ground,” he said.
Governor Eno reiterated his commitment to major infrastructural projects and youth empowerment, while reaffirming the state’s vision of becoming a prime destination for investment and tourism.

The Oyo State Police Command has reacted to the shooting of a 14-year-old boy, Kehinde Alade, by a stray bullet from one of its personnel.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Osifeso Adewale, the spokesperson for the Oyo State command, said the police regret the tragic incident which occurred during a joint traffic enforcement operation with the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA).
Adewole said the incident happened when the enforcement team attempted to demobilise a black Honda Accord (LAGOS registration number FST 639 JJ), driven by one Odunayo Alade, ’m’ (father of the deceased young male).
He said the deceased father was being stopped for driving against traffic at about 7.45 am on May 20, along the Airport Roundabout, Alakia-Adelubi/Airport Road, Egbeda Local Government Area.
Rather than stop as directed by the team, the driver of the vehicle, in an attempt to evade arrest, accelerated towards enforcement officers.
According to Adewale, the deceased’s father rammed into two OYTMA vehicles and a Police Buffalo Patrol truck.
“In an effort to prevent further damage and harm to officers and other road users, barricades were set up to demobilize the fleeing vehicle. However, the driver reportedly broke through these barricades, continuing to drive recklessly and endangering lives.
“Given the nature of the driver’s conduct, officers suspected possible criminal activity or a case of abduction. A police chase ensued. In an attempt to immobilize the vehicle, a police corporal discharged a firearm aimed at the tyres,” Adewale stated.
He noted that the bullet missed and killed the young lad who was seated in the rear seat behind the driver.
Young Alade was immediately rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH) for medical attention but was confirmed dead on arrival by the doctors.
His body has since been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
Adewole said following the purest that ensued from the death of the teenager, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, has deployed tactical and intelligence units, including the Police Mobile Force (PMF), to the scene and other strategic locations in Ibadan.
In addition, Adenola has also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
The investigation, Adewale said, would be led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
Meanwhile, the police officer responsible for the killing of the young Alade has been taken into custody alongside other members of the enforcement team.
While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the police said the investigation and every finding linked to this particular matter would be transparent and made public
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has asserted that members of the National Assembly were not elected to be antagonists to the executive arm of government but to work in synergy to ensure Nigeria’s development.
Akpabio made the comments in a feature documentary produced to mark two years of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, highlighting the importance of legislative-executive collaboration and the reforms underway in the country, a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media, Bayo Onanuga, said on Tuesday.
“When elected into the National Assembly, whether in the Senate or the House of Representatives, your constituents will not give you boxing gloves. It’s not a boxing tournament,” Akpabio said. “You are there to work in a bipartisan manner for the interest of Nigeria.”
He said the cordial relationship between the executive and the legislature under the Tinubu administration was not accidental but a product of shared commitment to reform and national development.
“If you spend all your energy fighting the executive, who will work for Nigeria?” Akpabio asked.
He noted the uniqueness of the current government, which has, for the first time in Nigerian history, a president, vice president, and first lady who are all former senators. According to him, this has fostered unprecedented cooperation and understanding between both arms of government.
Akpabio disclosed that the National Assembly is currently working on legislation to prioritise the purchase of locally manufactured vehicles and goods, a move he said is central to reviving Nigeria’s moribund industrial sectors.
“We have started the bill for enacting legislation to enable us to first purchase automobiles from Nigerian companies before thinking of importing them,” he said.
He lamented that Nigeria loses billions of dollars annually to imports of goods that could be produced locally.
“Over 50 textile companies have left Nigeria. The cotton industry collapsed. The groundnut industry collapsed. The palm oil industry collapsed. Look at countries like Malaysia that have leveraged palm oil to boost their economies,” Akpabio said.
He commended the Tinubu administration’s “Nigeria First” agenda, describing it as “a fantastic initiative” that requires robust legislative backing.
“We are going to make laws and produce bills that ensure almost every item we consume that can be produced in Nigeria is produced in Nigeria,” he said.
According to Akpabio, the Assembly is collaborating with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council to draft policies that will ensure sustainable industrialisation.
“Taking Nigeria First means bringing industries back to the country to serve our population of over 200 million,” he said.
The Senate President emphasised the need to support local entrepreneurs, arguing that Nigeria’s population offers a large and profitable market for small and medium enterprises.
“Even if you produce vinegar and bag it well, it will fly. If you produce bread, you will be a millionaire, considering the kind of population that we have,” he said.
Akpabio also addressed criticisms that the legislature under his leadership has acted as a rubber stamp for the executive.
“People forget that we have made enemies by rejecting some of the nominees that the president sent to us. It’s not everything the president brings that he takes back the same way,” he noted.
He said the Senate scrutinises all executive proposals, ensuring they reflect the realities and interests of Nigerians.
“Our job is to make sure we cross the T’s and dot the I’s to assist the President in having the best for the Nigerian population,” he added.
Akpabio cited several people-centred laws passed by the 10th National Assembly, including the Student Loan Act, tax reform bills, and the Minimum Wage Bill.
“This government is not a government of theory; it’s a government of action. So, for us in the National Assembly, we are very focused on pro-people legislation,” he said.
He pledged that the Assembly will continue to support the President’s reform agenda with laws that reduce hardship, open up the economy, and empower young people.
“We have done quite a lot in just two years. I assure Nigerians that more people-focused laws are coming: laws that will reduce hardship, open the economy, and empower young people,” he said.
He added, “From the perspective of the National Assembly, we have scrutinised almost every bill that the President has brought.
“We have aligned it with the Nigerian people’s realities and needs and supported it by ensuring they are speedily passed.
“We don’t waste time on anything that will enhance the living standard of Nigerians,” he said.
