The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has declared that organized labour would not go on strike on Tuesday regarding the current new minimum wage dispute with the government.

Giving the reason for the decision, Ajaero said labour would not go on strike yet because the figures are currently on the table of President Bola Tinubu and a feedback is being expected.

Naija News reports the NLC president made the decision known while speaking on Monday at the International Labour Conference taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.

Citing examples of previous administrations, Ajaero said it is still possible for the President to increase the proposed figure before him.

However, he called out Governors who have declared they can’t pay the proposed N62,000 new minimum wage, which is currently what the federal government is offering, and labelled them as lazy.

In his words, “We cannot declare strike now because the figures are with the President.”

“During the tenure of the immediate past President, the figure that was proposed to him was N27,000 by the tripartite committee but he increased it to N30,000. We are hopeful that this President will do the right thing. The President had noted that the difference between N62,000 and N250,000 is a wide gulf,”

“How can any governor say he cannot pay? They cannot also be calling for the decentralization of the minimum wage.

“Are there wages decentralized? Governors whose states are not contributing a dime to the national purse and who generate pitiable Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) are collecting the same amount as governors whose states are generating billions of dollars into the FAAC.

“They should decentralize their salaries and emoluments first.”

“So, where is the governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki getting his money from? He is paying N70,000 minimum wage. This is the type of governor that should be emulated and not the lazy ones.”

The Southwest governors have said that the negotiations on minimum wage between the Federal Government and organised labour should reflect fiscal federalism.

Naija News reports that the chairman of the forum, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, made this known on Monday after a meeting of the Southwest governors in the state.

Sanwo-Olu, in the post via his X handle, said the governors would support whatever outcome of the negotiation on the minimum wage.

He added that various issues affecting the Southwest states were also discussed at the meeting.

He wrote, “After the conclusion of our South West Governors’ Forum meeting today at Lagos House Alausa, Ikeja, I was elected as the new chairman of the forum.

“Today, we honour the memory of our late chairman, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu, SAN, CON. May his soul rest in peace.

“During our discussions on various issues affecting our states, we reached the following resolutions: We are grateful to the House of Representatives and South West Caucus for their efforts on the South West Development Commission Bill and urge the Senate to expedite its passage.

“We commend Mr. President, H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project and other initiatives, and we call for further road rehabilitation by the Federal Government.

“On the matter of security, we are pleased with the peace in the South West and advocate for the establishment of state police. Collaboration between security agencies and the Amotekun Corps is very important.

“We stand united in supporting ongoing discussions on the minimum wage with an expectation of fair outcomes that reflect fiscal federalism. We endorse the Federal Government’s efforts on mineral resources and urge increased collaboration with states in granting leases to investors.

“We have agreed to bolster the efficiency of the DAWN Commission, with a focus on economic integration. These decisions and more are aimed at advancing the development and prosperity of our South West states.”

Popular social media influencer Saida Boj has taken to social media to lambast a Ghanaian prophet who forecasted a dark future for her.

Saida Boj, known for her bold and controversial persona, wasted no time in denouncing the prophet’s warnings, dismissing him as a fraud and accusing him of ulterior motives.

The saga began when the Ghanaian prophet took to the airwaves during a radio interview to share his foreboding insights about Saida Boj’s fate. 

Claiming to have insider knowledge, he alleged that dark forces from her paternal lineage were plotting against her, advising her to remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to their schemes.

However, Boj swiftly hit back at the prophet’s claims, branding him a “charlatan” and questioning his credibility, particularly in his country Ghana.

She went on to accuse him of seeking to expand his dubious practices into Nigeria, warning him to steer clear of her path. 

Saida Boj declared herself a “certified Igala lady” and proclaimed herself to be God’s favorite, citing grace as her shield against any threats.

She taunted the prophet, likening him to a “Ghana Masquerade” who squanders church funds on cosmetic enhancements, and cautioned his followers against blindly following him.

Saida Boj challenged the prophet to kneel before her and beg for fame if he so desired.

The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has summoned the Nigeria Football Federation and demanded a detailed technical report on the Super Eagles’ following their last two disappointing performances during the 2026 World Cup qualifying series in the June window.

The Super Eagles managed to secure only one point from a possible six, following a 1-1 draw against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo and losing 2-1 to Benin Republic in Abidjan in their third and fourth games of Group C.

These results leave the Eagles with a total of just three points from a possible 12 in their quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.

A female student has reportedly murdered her newly delivered baby in the Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State school hostel.

The student, whose identity remains undisclosed, was said to masterminded the infant’s death after being thrown from the top floor of a three-storey building, according to Leadership Newspaper.

A heart-wrenching scene unfolded as a viral video captured the aftermath, with fellow students grappling with the incomprehensible loss.

Reports suggest she gave birth in the hostel’s bathroom and questions arise concerning her unmarried status and the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy.

The varsity’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Bello, on Monday, confirmed the incident.

Bello assured all that the university promptly notified the authorities.

He clarified that the student’s pregnancy did not occur during her time at the university, highlighting the recent resumption of the academic session.

Immediate medical attention was provided to the student following the incident.

“The university administration is conducting a thorough investigation and taking necessary measures to address the situation,” Bello stated.

An American citizen who wanted to commit suicide on the Third Mainland Bridge has been rescued, the police in Lagos State have disclosed.

According to the police, the American, whose identity has not been divulged, was driven to the bridge by his baby mama at past 1:00 p.m. 

The state Police command made the disclosure in a statement shared on X.com on Monday.

The statement revealed that the American, who is in his early 30s, had ordered his baby mama to stop her vehicle while he walked to a spot on the bridge, with the intention to jump into the Lagoon.

A passerby who noticed his suspicious behavior, quickly alerted patrolling Rapid Response Squad operatives, who persuaded him not to jump. 

The officers then reunited him with his wife and daughter before taking them to the RRS Headquarters in Alausa.

The statement said, “An American citizen, name withheld was at 1:23 p.m. today restrained from committing suicide on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

“The American, who is in his early 30s was driven to the Third Mainland Bridge by his Baby Mama in company of his daughter. He directed the lady who was unaware of his motive to park somewhere while he walked to a spot for a leap into the Lagoon.

“A passerby who observed his movement quickly alerted patrolling RRS operatives who persuaded him from jumping, re – united him With his wife before taking them to RRS Headquarters in Alausa.

“The Commander, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), after advising the man and his family, directed that the case be transferred to Gender Department, Lagos Police Command for further counselling and necessary actions.”

An attack on a military base at Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State by daredevil bandits terrorising Nigeria’s middle belt region has let at least two soldiers wounded.

The soldiers, who have since been hospitalised, sustained the injuries during a gun duel with the bandits. 

Rafi is one of the local government areas in Niger state battling violent attacks and wanton killings in the bandits.

The troubling security situation has turned the largely agrarian community into a desolate enclave as farmers abandoned farming activities and locals fled for safety.

Meanwhile, one of the bandits’ leaders was also killed in the gun battle in the early hours of Monday

It’s gathered that the bandits were attempting to cross to Mashegu and Wushishi Local Government Areas of the state to rustle cattle when they encountered the soldiers.

The Chairman of Rafi Local Government Arwa, Ayuba Katako, confirmed the incident to newsmen.

Katako said the two shot soldiers were being treated at the IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna.

He added that the military, police and vigilantes who are ensuring peace and security of lives and property in the state deserved to be commended.

“It happened in my domain. The two soldiers have been taken to the IBB Specialist Hospital where they are responding to treatment.

“The military, police and vigilantes are trying their best to ensure peace and security of lives and property in the state and they deserve to be commended,” he said.

Katako decried the continuous attacks on security operatives and called for patience, support and prayers to overcome the menace of insecurity bedevilling the state and Nigeria at large.

Ifeanyi Ubah, senator representing Anambra south, has blamed Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra, over Flavour’s decision to bury his father in Enugu instead of his Anambra hometown.

On Saturday, Flavour held the burial ceremony of Benjamin Onyemaechi Okoli who passed on last month.

The singer was born in Enugu but his family is originally from Umunze in Orumba South LGA, Anambra.

Cubana Chief Priest, the nightlife promoter, who attended the event disclosed that the burial ceremony was supposed to be held in Umunze, Anambra state.

He also claimed Flavour moved ceremony to Enugu due to security concerns in Anambra state.

In a statement through Kamen Ogbonna, his media advisor on Monday, Ubah apologised to Flavour for the “poor security” and apportioned blame on Soludo for “failing to improve the situation in Umunze”.

He also alleged that Soludo’s interference has hindered efforts to address insecurity in the region.

“I apologise to Chinedu Okoli (Mr. Flavour) for missing this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate the life and time of his father in his hometown,” he said.

“I would have secured Orumba and the entire Anambra South senatorial district if the state government hadn’t stopped my security initiative, despite its success in the Nnewi Pilot program.

“The state government’s actions have left my constituents vulnerable to security threats, particularly in areas currently under siege by non-state actors, which would have been liberated by now. I will continue to advocate for the security and well-being of my people, despite the obstacles.

“In 2023, I launched the security initiative aimed to provide comprehensive security coverage for the Anambra South senatorial district.

“Following its success in Nnewi, plans were underway to expand the programme to Orumba North and South, Aguata, Ihiala, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo. However, the state government’s interference halted the initiative’s progress, introducing politics into security matters and prioritizing the governor’s second-term bid over the welfare of the people.

“We used a combination of artificial intelligence, local intelligence, walkie-talkies, and 4G High Definition CCTV security networking systems to achieve this.

“The state government’s actions have left my constituents vulnerable to security threats, particularly in areas currently under siege by non-state actors, which would have been liberated by now. I will continue to advocate for the security and well-being of my people, despite the obstacles.”
