The deadly coup attempt in July 2016 marked a monumental turning point in Turkey’s political history. On 15 July 2016, a faction within the Turkish Armed Forces, organized as the Peace at Home Council, attempted a coup d'état against state institutions, including the government and president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. They attempted to seize control of several places in Ankara, Istanbul, Marmaris and elsewhere, such as the Asian side entrance of the Bosphorus Bridge, but failed to do so after forces loyal to the state defeated them.
When President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the Turkish people via FaceTime on the night of July 15, he pointed the finger of blame for the coup attempt squarely at Fethullah Gulen and his followers in the military. The Gulen movement, organized around the leadership of the Pennsylvania-based cleric, has been known to be a social movement with a secretive and complicated history.
Gulenists describe themselves as Hizmet (Service) because of their emphasis on “creating necessary infrastructure (the movement is famous for its extensive transnational network of schools) to reform society.” However, analysts have suggested that the coup authors - whether Gulenists or secularists - may have brought forward plans because they suspected Mr Erdogan was about to purge the military anyway.
Similarly, on Monday 6, of June 2022, a federal grand jury in the District of Columbia returned a superseding indictment charging some members of the Proud Boys, including the group’s former national chairman, with seditious conspiracy and other charges for their actions before and during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Their actions disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the presidential election.
It is against this backdrop that this contribution will be analysing the inherent danger of the mischievous movement called "Obidients" arrogant and garrulous, the kind of trash that sits well with their tiny mental capacity and hatred has recently gone beyond cyber stalking and bullying. Shortly before and immediately after the presidential election results were announced, it became very clear that the Nigeria's political dilemma is about to witness the most ugliest era.
In lieu of the above, I have in several articles immediately after the poisonous letter of Obj, forewarned about the clandestine activities of some of our supposedly 'Statesmen' and some desperate politicians fanning the embers of disunity, spreading falsehood and deceitfulness as well as weaponizing ethnicity and religion. Sadly, in a society rife with delusions and false hope, a realist is seen as an enemy. In the same vain, a brother and fellow compatriot Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation, who also alerted the nation about the surreptitious activities of some disgruntled elements meeting with the military hierarchy for ignoble purpose.
To be clear: interesting characters like; Olusegun Obasanjo, Afe Babalola Emmanuel Iwanyanwu, Peter Obi, Datti Baba-Ahmed, Rev Fr Ebube Muonso and many others remotely or directly connected with recent activities of some groups particularly those who are demanding for interim government or military take-over including some "failed" politicians hiding behind Peter Obi's ignoble movement called "Obidients". It validates and confirmed FFK's statement about "Coup d'etat" the fact that the so-called movement could summon the courage to call for coup right in front of the 'Defense building' signalled a very clear message from the aforementioned gladiators.
As the civilized world watch the unfolding events particularly the recent experiences in the Nigeria political space, which have witnessed a mob of gangsters peddling fake news and misinformation, hurling invectives, hate speech and vitriolic assassination of characters of dissenting opinions. This is a radical departure from political civility and what democracy stands for. It should be noted that those who are skilled in combat do not get angered, those skilled at winning do not become afraid. Thus, the wise win before they fight while the ignorant fight to win.
At times like this, the President C-in-C of the federal republic of Nigeria His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari, should as a matter of urgency activate the "Erdogan move" it is not enough for the inspector-general of the police and the Department of State Security DSS to be issuing statements and threat, it is a time for 'Nigerianity.’ Profound oratorical articulation. Once again, I like to conclude this article that focuses on our togetherness by appealing to the conscience of stakeholders, faith-based leaders and our noble statesmen to urgently intervene.
