Unknown gunmen causing mayhem in Benue State have killed a Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr. Nathaniel Ochoche.
Ochoche, who was the Edikwu Ward 2 Chairman of the party in Apa Local Government Area of the state, was murdered alongside four others at the weekend.
The party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Tersoo Orbunde confirmed the incident in a statement he issued and made available to reporters on Monday.
It read: “It is with rude shock that the Benue State Secretariat of the Labour party received the news of the gruesome murder of its Chairman in Edikwu Ward 2 in Apa LGA, Nathaniel Ochoche, who was ambushed and killed by armed Fulani militia.
“Until his death, Mr. Ochoche was a consummate party man who worked assiduously hard for the growth of his community, constituency and country both in words and works.”
He called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency, put up measures that would ensure a glorious end to the menace.

THE presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP in the February 25 election and former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi said on Monday in Awka that he had no reason to take a rest after the 2023 presidential campaigns and the election that followed, arguing that those who had to rest had their reason for doing so.
Addressing reporters after visiting the Moslem community in Awka Central Mosque to celebrate the Eid-El Fitri with them, Obi said the kind of problems facing Nigeria did not warrant that her leaders should rest as there are many issues requiring consistent attention.
He said: “People who want to rest can go and rest. Me, I am not resting because I have to be visiting schools and hospitals and be interacting with people.
“No serious leader will go and rest in Nigeria. We will continue to visit as many people as we can, and also support them in the best way we can.”
He told the Muslim community that his visit had nothing to do with politics because the campaigns had ended.
According to him, it is not only when one is seeking political office that he should visit people, adding that no matter what people do in politics, but Nigerians must also remain one.
He added: “I am a Christian and you are Muslims, but we are all Nigerians. Politics can also not divide us. I have never seen any road that is built and is only for Muslims to drive on, or seen any market where only Christians buy bread cheaper than Muslims. If you know such a market, please tell me, let me go and buy.
“If you go to Dubai, the land on which one of the biggest churches is built was donated by the ruler of Dubai who is a Moslem. In England too, a mosque was donated by the Queen, who is the head of the Church of England.
“We are one and we are created by the same God. We should therefore not allow religion or politics to divide us. Nigeria will continue to be one irrespective of political affiliation.
“When I told people that I will start fighting poverty from the north, some people said that the North is not poorer than South and that since I’m from the South, I should start here. But the truth is that I know that the vast land which we would use to solve the problem of poverty in Nigeria is in the north.
“We’re committed to a better Nigeria. What our people want are the good things of life because all of us are suffering the problems of Nigeria.”
He thanked them for supporting the Labour Party, which ensured that the party won the election in Anambra State.
He donated cartons of noodles, bags of rice and soft drinks to the community and promised to help them in the rebuilding of the Central mosque, which is undergoing a facelift.
The leader of the Muslim community in Awka, Alhaji Musa Bello who spoke on their behalf recalled that he was among Moslems sponsored to Mecca on a pilgrimage during Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State.
Bello said: “We know you more than most people because we lived with you here in Awka when you were governor. Many of us were allocated land during your tenure and we cannot because of politics deny what you did for us.
“Many of us are members of the Obidient Movement and we are optimistic that you will reclaim your mandate.”
Another member of the community, Abdullahi Garba Haruna also testified that he had his primary and secondary education in Awka, during the period when Obi was governor under the state government scholarship
Two more Chibok schoolgirls who had remained in captivity were rescued last Sunday following massive troops operations in some parts of Sambisa forest.
A reliable security officer at the 7 Div, Maimalari Cantonment who is not authorized to talk to the press confirmed the development on Monday evening, according to Vanguard.
This is even as the Nigerian troops of 21 Armored Brigade Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) Bama, have repelled an attack of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the outskirts of the town in Borno.
It was gathered that the terrorists stormed the town from the Sambisa axis through Yarimari Gana in the early hours of Sunday morning, April 24 2023, at about 0200 hours in an attempt to cause havoc.
Likewise, suspected members of ISWAP also carried out another attack on a military outpost in Pulka village of Gwoza local government area of Borno state, in which, a soldier paid the supreme price in the attack.
Meanwhile, an officer (name withheld) at the Maimalari Cantonment said “the Chibok schoolgirls- escapees were identified as Hauwa Mutah and Esther Markus.
“One hails from Chibok and the other one from Dzilang village,” he said.
This according to findings has reduced the number of Chibok schoolgirls in captivity from 98 to 96.
An unspecified number of people have been reported dead as Hausa and Gbagyi boys clashed in Gwarinpa, a highbrow area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Unofficial sources said about 30 vehicles were destroyed by the feuding parties.
An eyewitness, simply identified as Mr Jonah, who is also a motorist playing the Gwarinpa axis, said the clash started when some Hausa boys allegedly broke into the house of the councillor in the area, stealing some of his valuables which resulted in the reprisal attack and subsequent killings.
He said, “The fight is between Hausa boys and Gbagyi (the indigenes). As you know, the Hausa boys are mostly the Keke riders and those that sell drugs in the Gwarinpa 3rd Avenue Road. It was said that the Hausa boys broke into the councillor’s house, they burgled the house, and tried to rob the house and that was when the indigenes got annoyed and came out to say they are chasing the Hausa boys out of Gwarinpa and that was how the confrontation started that led to the killing of some of them before the military came and calmed everywhere down.
“As I am talking to you right now, I think the military left the area and that was when this second phase started. The Hausa guys came from nowhere and started bashing cars. They bashed over 30 cars, the glasses all shattered. I managed to escape. As I talk to you now, I am still driving. It was after this that the Gbagyi boys came out in large numbers with woods in their hands and that was the trending video online. They were going towards 2nd Avenue to chase out all the Hausa boys there. “
One of the injured traders, Emmanuel Joseph said, “I was just on my own when some of the boys came to my shop and started saying I am one of them.”
Joseph was receiving treatment at the Federal Road Safety Corps Medical Centre, Gwarinpa, when he gave his side of the crisis.
A medical practitioner at the FRSC facility, who preferred anonymity, said at least two people have died from the incidents, while others in critical situations were referred to the National Hospital, Abuja
However, normalcy has been restored to the area following the heavy presence of the FCT Joint Task Force (JTF) of the police, military, DSS, NSCDC and Guards Brigade.
The FCT police said only one person died in the clash and one suspect was arrested.
FCT police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh said: “Following mild tension along 3rd Avenue at the Gwarinpa axis of the Federal Capital Territory due to a squabble between some Hausa and Gbagyi youths on Saturday, 22nd April, 2023, and the subsequent mobilisation and deployment of operatives from the FCT Police command to the affected areas to douse the tension and effect necessary arrests, the acting commissioner of police for the FCT, DCP Ahmed Musa, has met with traditional rulers of both the Hausa and Gbagyi communities in Gwarinpa at his office in the command headquarters to broker peace between both groups, deliberate on possible collaborations necessary to keep the youths in check and oust troubleshooters in the communities.
“The fracas between the two groups which caused the grievous injury of two youths who were conveyed to the hospital where one was eventually declared dead after attempts to attend to his wounds failed, led to the arrest of one suspect who is currently assisting the Police in their investigations to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the affray.
“The acting commissioner of police in charge of the FCT has charged the traditional rulers to consistently encourage the youths to imbibe peace and pursue grievances through the legally approved channels rather than taking laws into their hands.”
She also said the police had intensified surveillance patrols in the areas to monitor the situation to ensure that it does not further escalate.

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has confirmed plans to evacuate over 2,000 Nigerians in crisis-hit Sudan this morning.
This came on a day management of Air Peace expressed its willingness to evacuate Nigerians stranded in the Horn of Africa country free of charge.
This is even as Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, also yesterday encouraged Nigerian students in the war-torn country to remain in their universities to avert danger.
Recall that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffery Onyeama, had in an interview on Channels Television on Sunday night, said the only option remaining for Nigerians to be evacuated out of Sudan was through land, as the airport in the capital, Khartoum, had been shut, adding that the federal government was working with the Egyptian authorities to make this possible but didn’t say when the evuacuation would commence.
But speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily yesterday, the Director, Special Duties, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Onimode Bandele, said: “The truth is nobody has been evacuated yet. I just spoke to the ambassador, Olaniyan, in Khartoum a few minutes ago.
“It is true that there are plans to get buses to start moving tomorrow morning (today). And as I speak to you, the Director General, National Emergency Management Agency, Mustapha Habib, is already in Cairo because that is the window we are looking at.”
According to him, the movement is to be perfected between the Nigerian embassy in Khartoum and the NEMA director-general.
On how many Nigerians to be evacuated from the troubled country, Bandele stated that evacuation of a few thousand citizens was in the works.
“Our projection was that most students and others who want to evacuate are about 5,000. But with my discussion with the ambassador this morning (yesterday), the plan is for about 2,650-2,800 to move immediately, including families of embassy staff.
“As these plans continue, we’ll be able to update you with the actual figure and the exact time of departure from Khartoum to Cairo,” he said.
Air Peace seeks FG’s nod to evacuate Nigerians
Also yesterday,tThe management of Air Peace expressed its willingness to evacuate Nigerians stranded in Sudan free of charge.
The airline noted that Nigerian students and others stranded in Sudan needed help and would receice same should the federal government give it the nod to conduct the airlift.
It would be recalled that the airline in 2019, deployed flights to evacuate Nigerians in South Africa during the heat of the xenophobic attack against Africans living in that country.
Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, who disclosed this, said Nigerians stranded in the crisis-ridden country could be moved to a neigbouring country where the airline could evacuate them.
“I am compelled to help because Nigeria cannot afford to lose her citizens in that country. It would be my own commitment to make sure the stranded Nigerians in the war-torn country are safe.
“Everything must not be left for government alone, especially as the situation calls for urgency and immediate action.
“Again, Air Peace is willing to evacuate Nigerians stranded in Sudan free of charge, if government can get them to a safe and secure airport in any of the neighbouring countries bordering Sudan.
“Everything must not be left for government alone. It will be a privilege and honour of tremendous pride that we will be out there to give every Nigerian stranded in Sudan a sense of pride and oneness in their country.
“We are very ready to do it immediately, no time wasting. Any action that would promote national pride, national cohesion, peace and unity, we are for it.
‘’Again, we have no apologies for believing in our nation and loving the nation, despite certain national challenges.
“If they are moved to Kenya or Uganda or any other country, we will move in to get them out. Some parents have started calling on us to help. We are ready to do this again and again,’’ Onyema said.
Dabiri-Erewa urges Nigerian students to remain on campus
Meanwhile, the Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, yesterday cautioned Nigerian students in Sudan to remain in their universities to avert danger.
Dabiri-Erewa, who spoke in an interview on Channels Television, said: “The issue of those students that gathered together, took a bus somewhere, here’s the thing: they’ve all had to go back to their universities because it was very risky of them.
“Just imagine in a war situation, you just see 20 buses moving without any permission from the military authorities, we’ll endanger the lives. So, that is why they’ve had to return.”
The NIDCOM boss also cautioned against certain mobilisation efforts of the National Association of Nigeria Students, NANS, involving the pooling of funds to facilitate the transportation of Nigerian students in the North African country away from their campuses.
“NANS, which I understand came up with this thing of ‘pay $100, come somewhere, the things is, move to where? So, there’s no point taking you from one danger to another danger.
“There were some people that were leaving, that actually had to turn back because they would have been killed. So, now, they’ve returned to their various campuses,” she said.
She explained that the Nigerian mission had informed the students of a point of connection where buses would convey them.
The most likely places, according to her, would be some borders in Egypt from where the students would be transported home by air.
Dabiri-Erewa argued that there had been “tremendous progress”, noting that every Nigerian student now had a point of contact.
She added: “Buses will take them to a location. We’re looking at places in Egypt – Luxor and some other place there.
‘’So, really, there’s been tremendous progress, Mr President has given his nod immediately this happened, so there’s a lot.’’
More countries, including the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Japan and Korea, among others, deployed aircraft to Djibouti where they had started evacuating their citizens back home. Those trapped had earlier been airlifted to Djibouti.

President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu Monday arrived Abuja from France after a month’s rest and declared his readiness for the task ahead.
He also urged Nigerians to disregard rumours about his health, saying he is very strong.
Tinubu left the country for France on Tuesday, March 21 to rest and plan the transition programme ahead of his inauguration on May 29.
Since Tinubu travelled out of the country, there had been rumours especially by the opposition parties about his state of health.
Nevertheless, his return Monday has put an end to the rumours concerning his alleged ill-health.
However, as early as 12 noon, members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and supporters of Tinubu thronged the streets of Abuja to receive the president-elect.
Tinubu arrived the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at 4:30 pm to the waiting hands of enthusiastic associates and supporters.
The President-elect was in company with his wife, Senator Remi Tinubu, and his son, Seyi Tinubu.
Tinubu who was cheered by party faithful and supporters headed straight to his vehicle after a brief stop over to acknowledge supporters who had thronged the Airport to welcome him.
His convoy left the airport at about 4:51 pm to the city centre.
However, while other supporters and party faithful who had been anticipating his arrival laid siege to the Defence House in Maitama and the party’s Presidential Campaign office at Central Business District, the president-elect headed straight to his house in Asokoro.
Meanwhile, a statement issued Monday by the Office of President-elect and signed by Mr. Tunde Rahman, said Tinubu told supporters that having observed the much needed rest he was refreshed.
Speaking to the tumultuous crowd who followed him home, the President-elect said: “I’m happy to be back. I have rested, I’m refreshed and I’m ready for the task ahead.
“Forget about what the rumour mill may have told you. I’m strong, very strong.”
Asked about his plans for the country, he said he had been consulting and planning with a view to putting together a strong team so he could hit the ground running once he assumes office on May 29.
Among those at the airport to receive him were: Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as well as Governors Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Abubakar Sani-Bello (Niger), former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff.
Also at the airport were former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, APC Deputy National Chairman, North, Senator Abubakar Kyari, Deputy National Chairman, South, Emma Enekwu, and National Woman Leader, Dr. Betta Edu.
Others were: Senators Barau Jibril, Adeola Olamilekan Yayi, Opeyemi Bamidele, Dayo Adeyeye, Sabi Abdullahi and Adelere Oriolowo as well as the Secretary of the recently-dissolved Presidential Campaign Council, Hon. James Faleke, Hon. Babajimi Benson and Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Director of media and publicity in the dissolved Presidential Campaign Council.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural organisation has said the omission of Igbo from the transition committee list of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, is dangerous.
Recall that Tinubu had sent a 13-man list, in addition to the earlier transition committee list sent to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
It was observed that the Southeast was excluded from the list submitted to Mustapha.
In an interview with DAILY POST, Isiguzoro implored Tinubu to integrate Igbos at the federal level, noting that exclusive of Nigerians of South East extraction from his government portends danger.
According to him: “Ndigbo will give total support to Tinubu and we are emphasizing that he should integrate the Southeast properly into the centre and ensure he creates a government of national unity.
“We are shocked that among the people enlisted by the president-elect that there was no Igbo person in the transition committee forwarded by Asiwaju.
“This portends danger. We want to believe that those who assisted Asiwaju made a great mistake.
“For such a mistake to come at this hour, it portends danger to the unity of the country.”
Isiguzoro also urged: “Tinubu must ensure that people from the opposition who were sacrificed, from the South, like Wike, Chimaroke Nnamani, Ikpeazu, Ortom, and Ugwanyi who paid the supreme price by ensuring a smooth transition of power from the North to the South should be integrated into the government of national unity.”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Kogi State Governorship election scheduled for November 11, 2023, Senator Dino Melaye, has pledged to prioritize unity among the people of the state as well as enhance the state’s development if elected.
Melaye, made this promise during a meeting with the state leaders from Kogi Central, in Abuja, on Monday.
He said the outcome of the PDP governorship primary election showcased the bond of unity among the people of the State.
Melaye said, “I will not take the massive support of my Party and generality of Kogites for granted. This support will propel me to work assiduously for the development and unity of our State.”
Earlier, the leaders of Kogi Central had endorsed his candidature while expressing confidence that he will deliver on his promises to the people.
Former Deputy Governor of the State, Chief Patrick Adaba, who spoke on behalf of the zone at the meeting, said Kogi Central will give Senator Melaye the requisite votes to win.
Adaba noted that the gubernatorial candidature of Dino will be beneficial to the people irrespective of which part of the state they come from while urging the people of Kogi West not to miss this “golden opportunity” of producing a governor.
Also speaking at the event, the former Deputy Governor of the state, Hon. Philip Salawu, described the victory of Senator Dino in the primary election is the will of God.
He charged the PDP governorship candidate to continue with his reconciliatory moves which he said has endeared him to many Nigerians even beyond Kogi State.
The State PDP Chairman, Engr Sam Uhuotu, said the rotation of governorship slot among the three senatorial districts will engender harmony among the various ethnicities in the state.
Also speaking during the event, the former National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, said that the party’s candidate is a household name in the State and needs little or no introduction.
He said, “Every Kogites is aware that Dino has always fought their battles for good governance. When elected into office in November, Senator Dino will bring back the fortunes of the State”.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-political organization has called on the Lagos state government to release Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate, Fredrick Nwajagu.
In a call on Monday, Ohanaeze said Nwajagu was cracking a joke over his comment inviting the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to Lagos State.
To this end, Ohanaeze’s Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, urged the President-elect, Bola Tinubu and Governor Babjide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State to facilitate Nwajagu’s release.
Isiguzoro said Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu should facilitate Nwajagu’s release in the interest of national unity and reconciliation.
Recall that Nwajagu was arrested after the 2023 governorship election because he invited IPOB over to Lagos State following the attacks on Igbo-populated markets in the state.
Despite several appeals, the Eze-Igbo has not been released weeks after the election.
However, Isiguzoro said Nwajagu only cracked a joke like former Lagos State National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya, better called MC Oluomo, did during the election.
Speaking with DAILY POST, Isiguzoro said: “The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is still worried that a traditional ruler, Nze-Igbo, in Lagos State, who was only cracking jokes, has not been released.
“He has told us through his emissary that he was only cracking a joke, and we want to tell the governor of Lagos State and the President-elect that Igbos are begging on behalf of Eze-Igbo that they should facilitate his release because he was only cracking a joke like MC Oluomo.
“Igbos were asked to support Sanwo-Olu after much consultations with Umahi, Ikpeazu, and Wike, who said it’s in Igbos’ interest to support Sanwo-Olu, so in the light of the foregoing, Sanwo-Olu should start the national healing process by facilitating Nze-Igbo’s release who has been abandoned in detention and has confirmed that he just cracked a joke.
“IPOB does not exist in the Southwest; they are only in the Southeast. There is no way IPOB will go to the Southwest to cause havoc. If the police can forgive MC Oluomo because what he said was a joke, then they should release Eze-Igbo because it’s a joke, he should not remain in detention till May. We are pleading for Asiwaju and Sanwo-Olu to intervene in the spirit of national reconciliation that the traditional ruler should be released.”

Inauguration committee: Tinubu already serving Igbo ‘bread soaked in water’ — PDP chieftain, Nwodo
AdminThe former National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, has said that Nigeria’s President-elect, Ahmed Tinubu, is already showing the Igbos a glimpse of how they will be treated in his government.
At a rally in Michael Okpara Square for a presidential campaign rally in January, Tinubu urged the southeasterners to work for his victory and that of the party.
According to Tinubu, “… nobody will give you any credit, you are working hard, you’re sweating now.
“We want you to sweat well now for this party until you deliver victory.
“Until Bola Tinubu becomes the President of Nigeria, we will not give you but a soaked sliced bread.”
Speaking on Monday in an interview with Vanguard, Nwodo said Tinubu was already serving the Igbo the promised “soaked bread”.
He said it in reaction to the perceived exclusion of Igbo in Tinubu’s 14-man inauguration committee.
Nwodo, an ex-governor of Enugu State, said that any President of Nigeria who is not making serious efforts to unite the ethnic groups in Nigeria will fail woefully.
He equally bemoaned the repeated attacks on Igbo in Lagos State, who he said were being allegedly punished for voting their conscience during the general elections.
On Buhari’s apology, the elder statesman also said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s apology to Nigerians was belated and not enough to heal the trauma he caused Nigerians.
Nwodo, who gave an abysmal scorecard of 30% to the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government, said insecurity, ethnic bigotry and hunger festered across Nigeria during its reign.
The President had apologised to Nigerians, stating that he had done his best and cannot wait to head back home to Daura, in Katsina State.
The founder, One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji has said Nigeria’s President-elect, Senator Bola Tinubu has a “stepping stone for divine government in Nigeria”.
He said this on Sunday during a world press conference to mark the Unity and Light Anniversary of his existence as the Living Perfect Master.
Guru described Tinubu as an “experienced leader” who can “lay down a strong foundation to take care of the country’s meagre resources to produce more and meet up globally”.
While commenting on the Labour Party candidate in the last election, Peter Obi, Guru noted that voting for the former is just like “enacting Biafra game”.
“I am not against them but Atiku is not as well qualified to be Nigeria’s president because he broke the law of his party, PDP, to become President of the country with the consensus arrangement agreed with all the governors, he is not Nigeria, Nigeria is bigger than him, he broke the law,” he added.
He advised aggrieved contestants, Abubakar Atiku of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and the Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi to withdraw court cases challenging the victory of Tinubu.
Guru further added that though there are some clashes during the election but it was a “credible, free and fair election so far” while he appealed to Nigerians to give support to the president-elect, Bola Tinubu to achieve success in his government.
Speaking on the Muslim-Muslim ticket, Guru hinted that; “it is high time Nigerians move forward, religion is an aberration and has nothing to do with Man’s life, as a black man right from kid, we knew all the ten commandments and we practice it, so whether he is a Muslim or Christian anybody who has recommendation and suggestion should forward it to Tinubu. Irrespective of his religion, religion should not be a problem but Nigerians should pray for the success of the incoming government.

Mike Bamiloye, the founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, has said that many women, even at the age of 28, are not ready to be wives.
The film director and producer made this disclosure, On his Instagram page, on Monday, 24th April 2023. He noted that many women these days “prepare more for the wedding day than for the marriage life.”
Many people aren’t getting ready for marriage sufficiently. Many people have limited understandings of marriage. There are no in-depth research on what marriage entails. Hence, “Many ladies are not qualified to be wives even at 28”
He added, “Some ladies are too hasty and not ready to sit down and learn the principles of marital life.
He continued, many of the women who are eager to get married, do not know how to cook but are accustomed to eating fast meals at restaurants, ice cream, and boiling eggs for noodles.
“They can’t cook properly. They are used to fast food at the eateries and ice cream, (noodles) and spaghetti plus boiled eggs and Titus, and they spend six months studying the wedding gowns and the accessories for the bridal trails. And they want to marry.”
He noted that if love is blind at courtship, the marriage will open blind eyes.
Mahmoud Imam, the secretary of the Muslim community in Anambra State, disclosed on Sunday how Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, constructed a mosque for Muslims.
The Imam claims that at one point, Obi sent at least 150 individuals on a pilgrimage to Mecca.
The imam highlighted that Obi has continued to help the Muslim community since his time as the governor of Anambra State during his sermon at the Central Mosque in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Sunday.
He denied the former governor’s accusations that he despises Northerners and said they disapproved of the ethnic and religious characterizations of Obi and his ambition for a New Nigeria.
Imam while speaking at the Mosque said;
We follow the news, and we are not pleased with the many negative stories people tell about Obi’s relationship with the North. We here are not only close to Obi, but we have remained the consistent beneficiaries of his benevolence. So we can say, authoritatively, that the stories making the rounds online, that Peter Obi does not care for Northerners, are false.
When our mosque was burnt down, he quickly rebuilt it for us and made it even better. During the crisis that erupted in the State in 2006, Obi ensured that no Hausa man was hurt. He gave us maximum security in the barracks. Throughout his 8 years as a Governor, he would invite us to the government house every year during the Sallah celebration, eat and celebrate with us. This time around, he decided to visit and celebrate with us in the mosque.
Many of our people here, not less than 150 were sponsored by Peter Obi to Mecca for pilgrimage, over the years. We equally watched his movements during the campaign, how he toured the Northern part of Nigeria and visited places no one expected. We are happy with our relationship with him and with the North. He is a true Nigerian.
