The legal counsel of controversial activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has revealed the individuals behind his client's arrest.

He alleged that Nollywood actresses,Tonto Dikeh and Iyabo Ojo teamed up with music producer, Samklef to take legal action against VeryDarkMan.

Recall that VeryDarkMan was arrested by the police following a petition by actress Tonto Dikeh over allegations of cyberbullying and threats to her safety.

Before his arrest, VeryDarkMan had accused Tonto Dikeh of involvement in the formation of the GistLover blog, resulting in numerous d3ath threats directed at her by the blog’s detractors as claimed.

Although VeryDarkMan was expected to be released from custody on Monday, the stringent bail conditions imposed have made securing his release challenging.

The bail terms mandate possession of property and a business in Abuja, along with the involvement of a government official and the surrender of his international passport for a year, in addition to a financial bond of N200 million.

In a video, VeryDarkMan’s lawyer revealed that they had complied with the requirement of two high-ranking government officials but were still unable to secure his release due to the unavailability of the overseeing authority.

He expressed confidence in the professionalism of the police force to grant his client bail. However, he warned that legal recourse would be pursued if bail was not granted.

He emphasized that due process would be followed, asserting the right to peaceful protest both online and offline in accordance with the law.

Furthermore, the lawyer conveyed VeryDarkMan’s gratitude for the support received since the onset of his legal ordeal, affirming their commitment to navigating the legal proceedings diligently.

Five suspects, Favour Chukwu, 29; Desmond Umeh. 25; Godwin Amos, 22; Bineace Galion, 38; and Goodnews David, 23, have been arrested as the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, uncovered an illegal oil refining site at a forest in Odagwa Community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The site comprises over 10 illegal refineries with an estimated 500,000 litres of crude oil contained in about 50 illegally constructed reservoirs.

The spokesman for the NSCDC, Rivers State Command, Olufemi Ayodele, disclosed this while parading the suspects and conducted newsmen around the site on Monday.

Ayodele said the discovery was based on credible intelligence.

He said, “The Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Audi, has reiterated over time that all acts of economic sabotage would be fought to a standstill as suspects arrested would face the full wrath of the law, irrespective of their sponsors.

“In furtherance, the CG gave a marching order to the Special Intelligence Squad, charging them to be more thorough and results-oriented in their operations

“Based on credible intelligence, the CG’s SIS swung into action and uncovered 10 illegal local refineries in a forest located at Odagwa Community in Etche LGA of Rivers State where five suspects were caught in the act of illegally refining of crude oil.

“While conducting an operational tour across the large thick forest, about 10 different cooking pots of 50,000 litres capacity were seen with one big pumping machine, receiver tanks, 25 rubber hoses used for pumping crude oil and many long galvanised pipes with unquantified litres of crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) stored in six large reservoirs and other 20 smaller reservoirs drugged in the ground.”

While noting that further investigation is ongoing, the state NSCDC spokesman said the suspects would face prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commandant of the NSCDC, Rivers State Command, Basil Igwebueze, has condemned what he termed the ‘’unrepentant’’ act by these ‘’unscrupulous elements’’ who tapped into the Oil Well Head of Heirs Energies Limited and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited located around Imo River 2 Oil and Gas field at Odagwa in Etche.

Igwebueze said through different channels, the criminals inserted their galvanised pipes and siphoned crude oil while processing the same within the premises without recourse.

He emphasised that the site would be destroyed to ensure the perpetrators don’t return there to continue the illicit business.

“The uncovering of this massive illegal oil bunkering site is a landmark achievement and an indication that the NSCDC, as the lead agency in the protection of all critical national assets and infrastructure, will continue to combat crude oil theft with a renewed vigour even as we work in synergy with sisters security agencies to salvage the nation’s economy from saboteurs,” Igwebueze said.

He added that a “thorough investigation has commenced to unravel those behind the scene while all suspects arrested in connection with this act of vandalism and crude oil theft would be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction and their sponsors or cartels would be trailed and brought to book without compromise. ”

Punch reports that several pipes were connected to tapping points with high-pressure crude oil flowing therein, while a crude-laden abandoned wellhead was destroyed by the miscreants.

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, has revealed that it spent over N23 billion to fund 912 research projects across the country.

TETFund’s Assistant Director, Research and Development, R&D, Dr. Hadiza Ismail, revealed this at a validation workshop on “Strengthening Research and Innovation Funding Agencies in West Africa,” in Abuja on Monday, March 25.

Ismail said the agency was fully committed to the establishment of a science granting council in Nigeria.

She said: “So far, the Fund has spent over N23 billion on about 912 research projects that have been sponsored.

“But that also gives us an insight into the need for this workshop and what we are actually talking about. Despite the fact that we have given grants to over 900 projects, we want to see how we can link these research projects to industry and get viable outcomes at the end of the day to help Nigeria move forward''.

On his part, Executive Director, African Technology Policy Studies, ATPS, Network, Professor Nicholas Ozor, said the workshop was aimed at giving momentum to a project designed to strengthen national research councils in six West African countries.

He said: “Nigeria specifically has an issue currently because they do not yet have a well-recognized national research and innovation funding agency.”

Former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has slammed Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

He said he regrets helping him win election to become the governor.

Wike, while addressing a crowd of supporters, in Port Harcourt over the weekend, said the governor displayed a high level of pretence and deceived him [Wike] to work towards him becoming the governor.

Wike has been at daggers-drawn with his successor, Governor Fubara for many months now and their faceoff appears a long way from resolution.

Ranting at the occasion, Wike said: “You (Fubara) said State Assembly people should not be independent, but you want to be independent. Continue to be independent. Continue to save the democracy of Nigeria. If they like, let them do as they’re doing; if they get to any court they have in the state, let them continue. Let them continue.

“We’ll never be intimidated by that. So let nobody be afraid. Every day, they say they’re doing thanksgiving. They were lucky they didn’t show this early. When we’ve finished winning for them, from polling units to tribunal, from tribunal to court of appeal, they now came saying we want to remove them at Supreme Court.

“Can you imagine? That’s how they collect money from them. They appointed somebody as a judicial consultant. Shame, shame, shame.”

Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, AGN, has insisted that Nollywood actor, Zack Orji, is not dead.

This follows rumours on social media on Tuesday morning.

In an Instagram post less than an hour ago, Rollas wrote: “Mr Zack Orji is alive.

“Please ignore mischief makers who enjoy circulating fake news.

“This is to show how wicked some people can be. It is totally unacceptable.

“He will not die but live to declare the good works of God in Jesus’ name.”

This comes only a few days after another veteran actor, Amaechi Muonagor, passed away due to kidney failure.

Yoruba Fuji maestro, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM or K1 De Ultimate, has hit back at some of his band members, including Ayankunle Ayanlowo, who accused him of staff slaving them.

K1 spoke in an interview with GoldMyne TV on Sunday, stressing that Ayankunle and the other members were just being mischievous and wanted to dent his image in their respective interviews.

Ayankunle detailed his experiences working with KWAM1, alleging mistreatment and likening his relationship with the musician to that between a master and a slave in an interview published by an online platform .

He claimed KWAM1 would confiscate their passports when they travelled and recounted an incident where he was instructed to return home instead of seeking medical attention.

The drummer expressed ongoing health concerns, attributing them to stress from his about 32 years with KWAM1, and vowed to hold the singer accountable if anything happened to him.

Responding to the allegation, KWAM1 said Ayankunle, complaining of his passport being withheld, ran away from the band while they were on a tour in England and since then had had his travel documents confiscated by the British authorities for overstaying beyond the return date on the visa.

“Ayankunle and two others ran away from the band in England with their passports. And we returned to Nigeria. That was in the 90s. After he ran away, information reaching us indicated that in the course of him overstaying, he gave his passport to someone to come and present it at the British embassy. As of that time, they were not stamping visas on passport leaflets. The person successfully had his details changed to his while he maintained Ayankunle’s passport.

“On scrutiny, the embassy detected and withheld the passport. Ayankunle’s passport is at the British High Commission. This is someone who can barely read or write, and I facilitated a passport for him. I’m not the one who collected his passport. He has run away with it. How come the same passport is with me?” KWAM 1 queried.

The Fuji maestro further said another ban member, Ismaila Olubade, also accused him of withholding his passport and leaving them in America to go to his ex-wife in London, after which Demola Oyefeso bought them tickets to return to Nigeria.

“Is it possible for them to return to Nigeria without their passports? Of course, they all have their passports. If I had withheld their passports, Immigration or Customs would have questioned what I was doing with such a number of passports.

“When I saw that their problems were becoming too much for me, I disbanded them and then regrouped again with new members. After them, another set of people has run away. It’s a common thing with band members,” he added.

Speaking on allegation of staff slaving them, KWAM1 said he never treated anyone unjustly, adding that he has always paid listening hears to them.

He gave an example of one of his band members who complained that his house was being put up for demolition in Oyo State and how he pacified him that he would do something for him with the help of the team member too to salvage the situation.

“I told him that only his house cannot be put up for demolition. Although I could easily ask Governor Seyi Makinde but he was sure that many houses would have been marked too for the benefits of the residents of the state. So it was easier to just help him with whatever he could provide and the support of others,” he maintained.

Ochanja Market is in the Woliwo community in Onitsha South local government area of Anambra State.

A viral video of the washed road seen on Monday night showed the coated asphalts piled out with pieces scattered and water-logged on some parts of the road.

Meanwhile, residents have expressed their concerns over the poor and shoddy jobs the administration of Governor Soludo is executing in the state despite paying billions of taxpayers money for the projects.

They wondered how 20 minutes of rainfall could have caused the massive washing away of the road constructed barely one week ago, and what would happen by June in other roads the government had executed.

One of the posts accompanying the video, partly read: “Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s one week old Road washed away in a spit of a second.

“The “Dubai-Taiwan” Ochanja market road in Onitsha constructed with billions of Anambra taxpayers’ money has just been washed away by just one episode of 20 minutes rainfall on Monday 25th of March 2024

“The rainfall exposed the nature of poor quality jobs executed by the government.”

It added, “Just a few weeks ago, at the same Ochanja Market, a storey building under construction by the same government collapsed, killing an unknown number of people.

“By the time the rainfall is fully established in June, more poorly executed construction by the Anambra State Government could be laid bare for the blind to see.”

Meanwhile, the state government hasn’t responded to the viral video as to why the incident affected the market.
