The impeached Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has begun the process of filing a formal petition against the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa.

Following his impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly, Shaibu, through the legal representation of B.I. Dakum and Co., has contacted the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, for a complaint form.

The request, dated April 8, 2024, comes in the aftermath of the seven-man panel’s investigation into misconduct and perjury allegations against Shaibu, which led to his impeachment.

The panel, constituted by Chief Judge Okungbowa, has faced scrutiny over its procedures and conclusions.

Shaibu’s legal move, articulated in a letter signed by Adaze A. Emwanta, a former Commissioner for Information and Orientation under Governor Godwin Obaseki, alleges that Justice Okungbowa abused his office, engaged in official misconduct, and violated his oath of office.

The letter underscores Shaibu’s intention to formalize these accusations by filing a petition under the Judicial Discipline Regulations 2017.

The letter titled “Re: Notice to obtain a complaint form to file a formal complaint against Hon Justice Daniel Okungbowa, the Chief Judge of Edo State for abuse of office, official misconduct and desecrating his oath of office,” reads in part, “We write as Solicitors to Rt Hon. Philip Shaibu, who until this morning was Deputy Governor of Edo State.

“Rt Hon Philip Shaibu has instructed us to file a formal complaint to your council against Hon Justice Daniel Okungbowa, the Chief Judge of Edo State for abuse of office, official misconduct and desecration of his oath of office.

“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to formally request a complaint form prescribed under the Judicial Discipline Regulations 2017 to enable our client to file his complaint against the subject Judge.”

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has opened up on the secret to his good health.

The 82-year-old clergyman attributed it to a devout spiritual regimen.

This revelation came during the monthly Thanksgiving service at the RCCG national headquarters, Throne of Grace Parish, in Ebute-Meta, Lagos, themed “Renewed Like The Eagle.”

The cleric, who recently responded to his detractors, elaborated on the practices that have underpinned his progress in ministry and well-being.

He emphasized the significance of maintaining a close relationship with God, highlighting fasting, prayer, and obedience to divine directives as core components of his routine.

Furthermore, Adeboye advocated for a lifestyle of holiness, which he considers crucial for his sound health and spiritual fortitude.

Adeboye while narrating his story said, “As long as you are connected to the socket of the Most High, the enemy cannot touch you. Every day you will be looking younger, feeling stronger.

“A friend of mine called me at the beginning of this year and asked me, ‘Friend, how are you doing it’? I said doing what? He replied that at over age 80, I am still running up and down as if I am a small boy. I said if I tell him the secret will he believe me? Stay connected to the One who never tires, who never grows old, The One who is always there, the One who does not sleep nor slumber. Remain connected to Him and His Power would flow through you, renewing you strength from day to day.

“Not too long ago I travelled to one nation and as it used to be my custom, I decided to go for a walk in the morning and two of my sons decided to walk with me and said okay. After sometime I looked back and I wonder where are these boys? I have left them far behind. When I was returning, I met them on the way and I asked what happened, they said they did not know I am going that far. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.

“We are not just talking about being strong physically alone but it includes being strong mentally, spiritually, emotionally.

“I was telling someone what happened to me in 1951 he said how do I remember all these things, remember that those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. All you need to do is remain connected to the source of the Almighty God.

“Samson was so anointed by God that he singlehandedly killed thousands but when he disconnected himself from God, the enemies dealt with him.

“When you plug water heater to its socket, as long as water heater remains connected to the power source and put inside water, it is the water that will be boiling, and the heater would remain hot. But if you unplug this same heater and put it in water, the water would become cold including the heater.

“Scientists have discovered that you can renew your age by fasting, it has a very great advantage to make you look younger after the fast. Researchers conducted an experiment years ago, they caught two set of mice, separate them. Give one set food once in two day and feed the other one very well. I can’t remember for how many months they did that but they injected rat poison into both sets of rat, before evening all the rats that were feed fat had died. Seven days later, the only sign they saw on the rats that have been fasting was that there was yellow colour on their tail. When you hear people protesting that I asked you to fast regularly, just smile, it looks as if this old man knew what he is doing.”

Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele has said reports of her abandoning late actress Jumoke Aderounmu is untrue.

Recall that after Jumoke passed away, her brother stormed social media to accuse Funke of hypocrisy over her condolence message.

Jumoke's brother had also claimed that she didn't reach out to the actress during her battle with sickness that eventually killed her, but she ignored her messages.

Recall that Aderounmu passed away on Saturday at the age of 40 after battling an undisclosed ailment.

Akindele, who worked with Aderounmu on her TV serial, ‘Jenifa’s Diary,’ had taken to her Instagram page to mourn her.

However, a brother of the deceased shared a post on his Instagram account, stating how someone who ignored his late sister during her predicament was now mourning her on social media.

Many, who suspected he was referring to Akindele, thronged to the actress’ page to lambast her.

Reacting to the backlash in an Instagram live session, Akindele explained that she was depressed and dealing with her own “trying moments too” when Aderounmu was sick.

She said, “Some people are telling me to keep quiet since I’ve reached out to the deceased’s brother and explained. But I think I deserve… Somebody commented on my page that I may bury my children. I think that is serious. Why? What have I done wrong?

“The late Jumoke Aderounmu, I met her years ago. She was an actress, so I gave her some roles. She featured in Jenifa’s Diary and Industreet. And that was it. She acted her role, got paid and left.

“Recently, my attention was brought to a post by Jumoke’s brother. He was so upset that nobody checked on Jumoke. I said I know he is grieving. I know it’s not easy to lose someone. I’ve lost my mum. Nobody knows what I went through. I was depressed after losing my mum.

“So, I reached out to Jumoke’s brother. I said, ‘I’m so sorry. I feel your pain. Nobody told me that your sister was sick. I don’t turn deaf ears to people that are in need that are next to me. They wrote that I don’t help, I do help but I don’t make noise about helping. I believe giving should be done privately.’

“I don’t beef any filmmaker, I do my things, I face where I’m going. The records I’ve been able to break are by the grace of God. Do not forget I’ve got my trying moments too.

“My mum passed away during COVID-19, I was backlashed politically, and I lost my marriage. Somebody is now saying that I will lose my children. I think that is too much.”

The star said she is open to have more kids after giving birth to two in less than three years.

She said she had been looking for a female child but kept giving birth to boys.

Rihanna covered the latest issue of the Interview Magazine.

“As many as God wants me to have… I don’t know what God wants, but I would go for more than two. I would try for my girl. But of course if it’s another boy, it’s another boy,” she said.

The Barbadian superstar also gushed about how stylish his American partner, rapper A$AP Rocky is.

She said, “I be feeling bummy as s**t next to this man. I feel like, goddamn, I look like his assistant. I’m getting on a plane. We should be in sweats. He wants to be in a full Bottega suit. I’m like, ‘Why you got to do that to me?’”

Recall that A$AP Rocky confirmed his relationship with Rihanna in a GQ interview in 2021.

The couple welcomed their first child together, a boy called RZA, on May 19, 2022. In August 2023, they welcomed their second son Riot Ross.

Gov Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has stated that he is absorbing the insults and tantrums thrown at him for peace to reign in the state.

Fubara made the assertion when he received a delegation of members of the Bishops and Gospel Ministers’ Association International Incorporated, Rivers State Chapter, at Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Governor Fubara, who was represented by the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr George Nwaeke, said most people took his meekness for weakness, but his stance on peace has unarguably enhanced the harmonious atmosphere of concord as residents sleep with their two eyes closed.

He noted that because he has anchored his government on promoting peace, an enabling atmosphere has been provided for investments and sustainable development to flourish in the State.

Fubara urged members of the Christian family to continue praying for the State and the Government so that the enemies of the State would be put to greater shame.

He said: “Before, what they hear of Rivers State is that they are fighting, and some genuine investors will not come. Some people even ask you: ‘How are you coping in Rivers State?’

“But now, the Governor has brought about a lot of changes in the State. One of the most important things is that he has changed the negative narrative. It is no longer Rivers of blood. It is now Rivers of peace.

“We are enjoying our lives here. Why? Because there is a change in the narrative. We have peace. The Governor is, as much as possible, absorbing any level of insult at him only for one purpose: that Rivers State may have peace; that we may grow; that this State will experience genuine development.

“This peace is what I want you to embrace. Go and continue to pray, because when the sower of the seed went and sowed, the enemy went in the night and sowed tares inside there. But the Governor is sowing peace.

“When someone has the strength to fight back, but refuses to fight back. That is a bigger strength; that power of restrain does not just come, it can only come from God.

“You cannot give peace, if you do not have peace within you. The Governor is not interested in any form of trouble or violence. What he is interested in is known, and it is: let there be peace in Rivers State.”

The leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, National Youth Frontier, Usman Okai Austin, has said the former Edo State deputy governor, Philip Shaibu has messed up his political future.

Okai spoke in reaction to the impeachment of the former deputy governor by the Edo State House of Assembly.

He stressed that Shaibu was wrongly advised into making moves to succeed Obaseki.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Okai said: “Shaibu was wrongly advised or it’s a case of one trying to overrate himself.

“The way he and Obaseki came, he should have been allowed to end his tenure successfully with the name of deputy governor.

“The way he went about it was wrong, there is an arrangement of power rotation in Edo State which he knows, Shaibu can’t say he’s ignorant of this; he was a former state assembly member, former House of Representatives member, and now former Deputy governor.

“He’s aware that from Edo North to Edo South, their power links back to Edo Central. Edo North where he (Shaibu) hails from produced a governor for eight years which was Oshiomhole, then power went to Edo South where Obaseki hails from and it’s now going back to Edo Central.

“Meanwhile, Shaibu is agitating that the rotational policy in Edo State should be abolished to favour him.

“Edo North had eight years as governor and now they have produced a deputy governor which puts them at an advantage against other regions.

“Now, he became a deputy governor from the same place; what was expected of Shaibu was for him to have complied with the zoning arrangement that existed in Edo State by ensuring that somebody from Edo Central emerges, but having gone against that to buy form, is a problem.

“You and I know that every incumbent takes the issue of their successor more seriously than their own second term.

“APC is no longer interested in Shaibu, Oshiomhole told him to go and learn reality before talking of contesting election.

“He is no longer wanted in APC, he’s suspended in his own party, and the Labour Party is filled up in Edo State.

“He should approach the court so that they can clear him as a former Deputy governor.

“Now that he has been impeached, he does not enjoy any benefits as a former Deputy governor.

“He has to go and fight that battle now, either he was rightly or wrongly impeached but coming back to be a deputy governor may be difficult, so his political future has been mortgaged, he has messed it up. Shaibu was wrongly advised.”

The Chairman of Nigerian indigenous carrier, Air Peace, Mr Allen Onyema, has raised the alarm that foreign carriers operating the Nigeria-UK route are allegedly conspiring to send Air Peace out of international operations by crashing airfares on the route.

Onyema gave the revelation on Tuesday while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.

He alleged that there is an “unspoken alliance” among foreign airlines to use lower pricing to eject Air Peace from the Nigeria-London route.

“If they take out Air Peace prematurely, this country will pay dearly for it, 10 times over, billions will be lost, there will be another heavy strain on the naira,” he said.

DAILY POST recalls that Air Peace reciprocated the lopsided Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and the United Kingdom when the local airline began direct flight operations from Lagos to Gatwick Airport in London on March 30, 2024.

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo and his counterpart at the Trade and Investment Ministry, Doris Uzoka-Anita were onboard the inaugural Lagos-London flight, alongside businessmen and women.

Many industry observers have applauded the development, saying the development will encourage local airlines to commence international flights to profitable routes.

DAILY POST also reported how the price of international flight ticket on the Lagos-London route, which was as high as N3.5m for economy ticket went for N1.2m as Air Peace commenced the London route, with foreign airlines such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and Qatar Airways forced to slash their prices to stay competitive.

However, speaking on Tuesday, the Air Peace boss said foreign airlines operating the route “are fighting back”, adding that his airlines are being “deliberately frustrated in all ways”.

He cited ground handling and space allocation difficulties at Gatwick Airport in the last couple of days.

“It’s a very devilish conspiracy,” said a dissatisfied Onyema.

“All of a sudden, (foreign) airlines are underpricing, below the cost, it’s not up to one month, an airline was advertising $100, another one $305, $350.

“Fill up the entire aircraft and carry people on the wings, it’s not even enough to buy your fuel. So, why are they doing that? Their governments are supporting them because Nigeria has been a cash cow for everybody.

“Their governments are supporting them to do this and take Air Peace out. The idea is to take Air Peace out and the moment they succeed in taking Air Peace out, Nigerians will pay 20 times over again,” he said.

Onyema, therefore, invited other Nigerian airlines to join the Nigeria-UK route to break the monopoly hitherto enjoyed by foreign carriers operating into the four major gateway airports of Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt.

“I invite other Nigerian airlines to join the fray, let them come, let all of us do international operations. Yes, international aeropolitics is very dirty but somebody must pay the price,” he said.

A mass burial has been organized for seventeen victims of  armed herders' attack in Mbakyor at Mbalom council ward in Gwer-East Local Government Area of Benue State.

The victims were laid to rest on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in the community after an interdenominational service.

The marauding herdsmen invaded the community on March 7, 2024, killing the victims, including a retired WO2 Army Officer and a boy.

It was gathered that two out of the 17 farmers were earlier buried, as their corpses were fast decomposing due to the gruesome way they were murdered by their assailants.

Speaking during the burial, Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, who was represented by his deputy, Sam Ode, stated that one of the best solutions to end the incessant attacks by armed herders in Benue communities was the formation of vigilante groups.

“Today is a sad day in the history of Benue State; to line up caskets like this is unacceptable. I am so sad, and my heart is heavy to see this kind of spectacle that shouldn’t have happened,” he said.

“Security is not for government alone because there is no one that can protect you like yourself; you need to have a Joint Security Taskforce or vigilante groups that would be properly profiled and handed over to the government to handle them. That is the solution to the insecurity we are facing in the state,”

The governor also pledged to construct the road that passed through the axis to ease the movement of security agencies to the area in times of emergencies, adding that the community was also ripe for a police station.

The governor, however, promised to personally meet with the families of the bereaved after the burial and prayed against a reoccurrence of the same.

Elias Audu, member of Benue House of Assembly, representing Gwer East, wondered why despite the availability of fighter planes to tackle such attacks, security did not live up to their billings

He advised that the relevant security agency should be reprimanded because they would have intervened in the crisis, using fighter helicopters in such a situation, adding that they didn’t when his people were under siege for over 3 hours.

President of the Masev Development Association, Prof. Vitalis Tarhule, noted that the primary responsibility of government was the protection of lives and property, even as he appealed to the government to endeavour to protect the people.

He added that similar attacks had occurred in 2014, 2018 and 2024, bringing to a total of about 40 lives that were lost, insisting that there was a need to establish a security post in Mbaikyor to check the unwholesome activities of armed herders.

Chairman of the Association of Mbaikyor Sons in diaspora, Simon Kofi, told the governor that his people had apprehended two herders and handed them over to the police due to their nefarious activities.

He explained that their crime was that they told the herders not to come back to the community again, a situation which prompted the attack on his kinsmen.
