Controversial Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti has claimed that women are more unfaithful in relationships and marriages than men.

He said the notion that men cheat more than women was a propaganda.

The maverick singer spoke on the ‘Bahd & Boujee’ Podcast co-hosted by reality star Tolanibaj and actress Moet Abebe.

“The society made it seem like it’s only men that cheat. Women cheat more than men,” he said.

The hosts: “We don’t agree!”

Kuti, “Okay, this propaganda out there… The truth is that women cheat more than men. Even in the bible, Joseph’s master’s wife tried to cheat on her husband with him and because he refused, she framed him for rape.

“Which man did they write in the bible that he cheated on his wife?

“We [men and women] are all equally bad. Let’s just accept that. And men that are out there thinking that you are the only unfaithful one in your marriage or relationship, you are living in a fantasy.

“If she is not stepping out of the house, you’re sure she is in that compound 24 hours, start looking at everybody in the compound.”

An Iveco truck loaded with petrol exploded along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Saturday.

DAILY POST gathered that the truck, with no registration number, crashed at about 6:57 a.m. around Ago Igbala, Ibafo area axis of the highway.

The crash was said to have caused a traffic backlog between the scene and Arepo on the outward Lagos section of the expressway.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe, ascribed the cause of the crash to reckless driving and loss of control by the tanker driver.

Okpe noted that the accident involved five male adults and recorded no casualties or injuries.

She said, “The crash occurred at 06:57 a.m. this morning on Lagos-Ibadan expressway around Ago Igbala, Ibafo area of Ogun State.

“A total of 05 persons were involved, all male adults, and fortunately no deaths were recorded nor were there any injuries.

“The vehicle involved was an Iveco truck with no registration number on it. The suspected cause of the lone crash was speed and the vehicle lost control and crashed. The tanker was loaded with fuel and no casualties were recorded.”

Okpe noted that a rescue operation has been initiated, but traffic managers are still managing the traffic situation caused by the crash.

The new Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu did not stand in the way of his reinstatement by the Kano State government.

According to Sanusi, the President resisted the pressure of using federal might to stand in the way of his reinstatement and instead, chose to ensure law and order was maintained in Kano State.

Naija News recalls Sanusi was reinstated on Friday as the Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Yusuf after signing the new Kano Emirate Council Law 2024 following the repeal of the Emirate Council Law put in place by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje by the State House of Assembly.

Speaking on what transpired in Kano State, which led to his reinstatement, Sanusi said President Tinubu recognised that the Kano saga was a local matter and resisted all pressure to interfere or use federal might.

Speaking in an interview with TVC, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said: “As you know, I was appointed the 14th Emir of the single emirate of Kano in June 2014 and now I am reappointed as the Emir of the single emirate of Kano.

“I would also like to express my thanks to his excellency Alhaji Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu without whose principled stance of non-interference in the internal affairs of the state, this would not have been possible.

“The president has shown that he is a respecter of the constitution and the separation of powers, he recognises that this is a purely local matter and that the government has a responsibility to do what is right for the state.

“I’m aware that he has resisted all pressure to get the federal government to be involved.

“This for me is a continuation of service that I started, it is also an opportunity God has given me to improve on my previous tenure.”

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has shut down on a private rice factory in Niger State over unhygienic practice.

Speaking during a routine inspection of facilities in Niger State, the Director, North-Central Zone of NAFDAC, Shaba Mohammed, pointed out that though the facility was registered with the agency, the production environment was unhygienic and without good manufacturing practice.

“The rice processing facility has been sealed and given compliance directives for not complying with the instant regulations for which they were given to produce and certification. The place is unhygienic and they are not doing production according to good manufacturing practice,” he said.

The director added that the agency also discovered that some key workers employed by the company were not knowledgeable in areas of production.

Meanwhile, Mohammed has urged small and medium enterprises to take advantage of the Automated Product Administration and Monitoring System, an e-registration and data capture system that provides an online electronic medium for the application for products registration with NAFDAC.

He said NAPAMS would ease their interface with the agency and called on the general public to report anything that could endanger lives to the agency.

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the immediate arrest of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

The order was contained in a statement on Saturday by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sanusi Tofa.

The governor said Bayero should be arrested for allegedly creating tension in the state.

The statement titled ‘Gov. Yusuf Orders Arrest of Deposed Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero,’ read, “The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the immediate arrest of the former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, for creating tension in the state.

“The former Emir was smuggled into Kano city last night in an attempt to forcefully return to the palace two days after being deposed by the Governor.

“In a statement issued by Mr Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson to the Governor, it was confirmed that the new Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, arrived at the palace in the company of the Governor, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State Assembly, and other top government functionaries at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, 25th May 2024.

“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the deposed Emir with immediate effect for disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace the state enjoys.”

Bayero, whose whereabouts had been unknown since he was deposed on Thursday returned to Kano on Saturday.

The state House of Assembly repealed the law that ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had signed on December 5, 2019.

After signing the law, Ganduje split the emirate into five and appointed Emirs to each.

Upon signing the repealed Kano Emirates Council Law, Yusuf gave all the Emirs affected by the law 48 hours to vacate their palaces and hand them over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He subsequently announced the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi, whom Ganduje had deposed in 2020 as Emir of Kano.

The governor issued a reappointment letter to Sanusi on Friday, and Sanusi led Jumat prayers at the Government House, Kano.

In the early hours of Saturday, Ado Bayero returned to Kano into the waiting hands of a crowd of supporters, according to a video sighted by Daily Trust.

On Friday, Governor, Abba Yusuf reappointed Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.

Sanusi received his letter of reinstatement at the Government House in Kano.

The governor said, “By the powers conferred on me by the Kano Emirate Council Law of 1984 and 2024, and supported by the recommendation of the kingmakers, I have the singular pleasure of confirming the reappointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and the head of the Kano Emirate Council.”

Vice President Kashim Shettima has said the country would need about $10 billion yearly to achieve energy transition by 2060, which amounts to $360 billion.

Shettima stated this yesterday at an energy transition symposium organized by the Development Agenda Magazine, in Abuja.

He said before then, the country must maximise petroleum resources in the short term to provide the base-load energy that would turbocharge the economy.

Represented by the Special Adviser to the President on Power and Infrastructure, Sadiq Wanka, he said: “But full implementation of the Nigeria Energy Transition would not be easy.

“It requires concerted effort locally and international collaboration to source financing and to prepare the Nigerian workforce for a Net-Zero economy and to have a truly just energy transition.

“If we take the issue of financing alone , funding the energy transition requires investments of over $10 billion per year up to 2060.

“With 45% of Nigerians lacking access to electricity, and GDP per capita that is half that in Egypt and a third of that in South Africa, the urgency of, improving the economic condition of Nigerians is clear, But there are critical environmental/considerations which if not adequately managed would actually hamper our ability to change the lives of millions of our people for the better.

“Majority of this money would necessarily come from the private sector including through initiatives to access high -integrity carbon markets.

“But we are up to the challenge. The administration of President Ahmed Tinubu is willing to take the difficult decisions and the rich resource base and depth of human capital in our dear country will ensure our success.”

The Vice President also, noted that the two-pronged strategy to pursue renewables alongside oil and gas investments has yielded notable results that support the overall energy transition, like the “Climate Change Act signed in 2021 seeks to mainstream climate action into national plans and programmes.

“A renewed push towards hydroelectric power seeks to tap into over 14,000MW of near- term hydropower potential.

“The 700MW Zungeru Hydropower plant just came online in 2024. The national regulator has also mandated electricity distribution licensees to procure a certain percentage of their power from renewables.

“The Electricity Act 2023 which Mr. President signed, strongly supports the transition to a more renewable energy mix.”

Also, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, said his state has adopted what he called “unique approaches of placing people in the centre of its development plan.”

Represented by the Managing Director of Kaduna Power Supply Company (KAPSCO), Idris Aminu Idris, Uba said: “The Kaduna Solar for Health programme began with the goal of improving access to healthcare by delivering sustainable, uninterrupted power supply to Primary Healthcare Centers (PHC) and Maternity Health Clinics across all Local Government Areas (LGA) in Kaduna State.”

According to him, “the scope of the project expanded to include rural isolated General Hospitals across 255 wards in Kaduna State.

“The objectives of the Kaduna Solar for Health program are to increase access to healthcare; to ensure 1 hospital in every ward and LGA has access to reliable power 24hrs/day; to eradicate petrol and diesel generators which cause noise and pollute the environment with toxic waste such as CO, that can lead to serious Environmental and Health issues.”

Editor in Chief of Development Agenda Magazine, Paddy Ezeala, said the event was organized for chart a way on how to achieve a seamless energy transition.

Ezeala said: “Speakers at today’s event are speaking on how the Energy Transition movement is likely to affect Nigerians, especially those at the grassroots and more specifically those impacted by the extractive industry activities.

“These include those presently impacted by fossil fuels extraction or those affected by extraction of minerals powering so called clean energy, such as lithium, cobalt etc.”

President Bola Tinubu, in a meeting with Yoruba Leaders of Thought, pledged his commitment to meeting Nigerians’ expectations, emphasizing that Nigeria’s bleeding has ceased.

Expressing concern over the state of local government administration, Tinubu advocated for a more efficient system that promotes community development within Nigeria’s federal structure. 

Acknowledging the challenges faced during his administration’s first year, Tinubu affirmed, “We took over, and we have stopped the bleeding. I can say categorically now that Nigeria is no longer bleeding.”

“It has been challenging. It has been fulfilling as well. We took over, and we stopped the bleeding. I can say categorically now that Nigeria is no longer bleeding. And it will not bleed to death but will now move to prosperity. That is the promise I made to you all, and it is also the charge you gave me.”

He also called for deepening governance and reinforcing leadership across all levels of government and institutions. He added that his administration is committed to encouraging fiscal federalism and strengthening the system to enhance inclusion and equity for all Nigerians.

“Local government administration is being suffocated. People are looking for opportunities to ensure that they survive and become more purposeful through community development programmes. I will not support any effort to make the local government a unitary system by handing all core responsibilities to the federal government. That is criminal when there is a federal system.

“We have a federal system. There are state and federal administrations. We have two components. States must do whatever is in the best interest of their administration process. There is no one-size-fits-all. That is what we should do by looking at the revenue formula, and we must be consistent with federalism: fiscal federalism. You should expect those things from me, not the knee-jerk reactions ahead of elections.

“I can tell you that Nigeria is no longer printing paper money and deceiving itself that it has a base for survival. Nigeria went through terrible labour pains, but we have seen the baby coming out alive,” the President concluded.

Honourable Bayo Aina, speaking on behalf of the Yoruba Leaders of Thought, commended Tinubu’s investment in national infrastructure, praising his dedication to responsible governance across sectors.

As President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is set to mark one year in office, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, few days ago, in an interview on the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, declared that the President’s economic reforms have started bearing fruits, asserting that the measures have restored faith in the country’s economy.

According to him, “the reforms have restored confidence in the economy and the foreign investors have renewed interest in Nigeria”.

He said though the removal of the petrol subsidy had caused some pain, the policy had increased the quantum of funds available to the three tiers of government to invest in critical infrastructure that will regenerate the economy.
Nigerians have however taken the minister to task, asking him to disclose where those fruits of the economic reforms are located.

They knocked President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying its economic policies have produced more hungry Nigerians instead of alleviating their sufferings. The populace also demanded an apology from the minister for his presentation to Nigerians that the economic policies were yielding fruits.

Nigerians starve more now than previously — Fyneface

A human rights activist and Executive Director of Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria), Rivers State, Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, said, “Mr. President and his team, especially the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, would agree with Nigerians that the current situation is worse than what President Tinubu inherited. It is still far from what Nigerians, who are now hungrier, expected from this administration.

What are the economic reforms that the Minister is talking about? The reforms are yet to manifest on the tables of Nigerians battling with hardship, shortages of energy, lower electricity supply with higher costs, an all-time crash of the Naira against the dollar, and its resultant effect on the prices of goods and services with hyperinflation and associated job losses in the private sector unable to continue in business because of the higher cost of operations.”

The activist maintained that the minister’s claims were not in line with the realities on the ground in the country as investors were leaving in droves, and shedding jobs while an average Nigerian is not happy with the present administration of President Tinubu because of prevailing economic challenges crippling the economy and multiplying hunger and hardship.

No renewed hope but absolute hopelessness — Hon Ayo Fadaka, Public analyst

A Public analyst, Hon Ayo Fadaka, said that “since May 29th 2023, Nigeria has transformed to a nation of intense hardship for its nationals. Quality of life has dropped to almost zero, inflation keeps rising and has disposed the people of whatever savings they hitherto had.

Food prizes have astronomically attained unimaginable heights, yet people must find a way to feed, therefore the disadvantaged class devises any strategy to put body and soul together. Nigerians are resigned and await anything, there is no renewed hope but absolute hopelessness, yet the Tinubu administration remains insensitive as it continues to tighten the noose around our necks with a determined desire to completely asphyxiate us, we wait helplessly, may God have mercy on us.

Let Bagudu see the “fruits” and also harvest them, that is his business, but I know the people will always remain the indices of thriving economic policies. I just hope that Tinubu will prove his mettle soon, as posterity waits earnestly to record his deeds and misdeeds.

Bagudu should resign for his remarks – Akpan, activist

A civil society activist from Akwa Ibom State and Executive Director of COMPPART Foundation for Justice and Peace-building, Mr. Saviour Akpan called on the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning to resign his appointment for not telling the truth about the economy of the country.

According to him, “The minister, to be very candid, is speaking from the standpoint of where he finds himself. He needs to explain further to us what he meant by the reforms have restored confidence in the economy. Does he even know what he is talking about? How many villagers can afford four cups of garri for N1,000, and how many Nigerians can pay their children’s school fees today? We buy petrol at N900 or N1000 per liter at the filling station.

When we talk about the economy, are we talking about a consumer or producer economy? When Tinubu came into office the flight ticket was N70,000; today, a one-way flight ticket is N155,000.

The minister is lucky because Nigerians are used to the situations and people think all is well; all is not well in this country. I am calling on that Minister to resign immediately for his comments.

No reforms carried out —Iniruo Wills, ex-Bayelsa commissioner

A legal practitioner and President of the Ijaw Professionals Association (Homeland chapter, comprising Bayelsa Rivers and Delta), Iniruo Wills, said, “There have been no reforms. Reforms are products of earnest assessments, wide, credible consultations and well-thought-through responses to existing challenges. A handful of supposed experts huddling together, divining up data, and belching out their caprices cannot translate to reforms. The headline official changes on fuel economics, foreign exchange rates, and electricity tariffs have been mostly impulsive.

Comment is misleading innocent people – Clarkson, ex-MOSIEND spokesperson

A lawyer and former Spokesman of Movement for the Survival of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta, MOSIEND, Amaebi Clarkson, asserted that, “This APC government came into power through propaganda, so it is not surprising that they are still festering in propaganda to deceive gullible Nigerians. Foreign investors have left in droves. One needs to visit the hitherto industrial hubs to appreciate the impact of how depressed our economy is. The Trans-Amadi Industrial layout is a clear reality of the economic follies of this government.

The so-called economic reforms of this government are anchored on ridiculous taxes, emasculating the masses. The minister may not understand the economic policies of this government because he does not go to the market to see the havoc of his policies on food prices.

How did Bagudu come to such an assumption? — Morrison, environmentalist

An environmentalist, Alagoa Morris said, “Sincerely speaking, politicians are always politicians and will not accept the real situation, as they consider doing so is an acceptance of defeat or non-performance. Otherwise, how can the minister make such statements when hunger in the land has become the most threatening after the unacceptable security situation? The cost of living is at an all-time high, whether you view prices of food items, transportation, housing, education, health, etc.

What indices made the minister run to that conclusion? If not for assistance from extended family members, colleagues, fellow community folks, former schoolmates, etc, the rate of suicide would have been too high. The governments at all levels should work harder to ensure life becomes much easier for the masses”.

Apologize –Adima, activist

A political activist in Delta State, Mr. Blessing Adima described the minister’s assertion as wrong, wicked, and dubious. According to him, “The Tinubu administration says things contrary to what is evident on the ground. What policy is Tinubu running that is yielding fruit? Today, inflation rate is 34 percent, and the cost of commodities in the market is still very high. Many companies are folding up, even in the oil sector, they are winding down and leaving Nigeria in droves, and somebody is saying Tinubu’s economic reforms are yielding fruits.

Is it sour fruits or what? If the government has concern for the people, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning cannot come out and make that kind of assertion. They should apologize to Nigerians and beg for time for Nigerians to endure with them until their policies begin to yield fruits.

Govt painting a picture different from reality – Rev Ugolor, ANEEJ

The Executive Director, African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Rev David Ugolor said “It is easy to make such propositions but the reality is that we do not see the possibility of that happening with the huge external debt that this government is faced with. The reality is that if you look at the governance outlook, there is no real indication to show that the government is serious about this.

The IMF has just released its Article 4 Consultative Report and you can see that the economy is not healthy. The outlook is not encouraging. What is on ground is different from what the government is saying.”

Hoping against hope — Dr Ekhareafo, varsity don

The Head of Department of Mass Communication, University of Benin, Dr Dan Ekhareafo,on his part said, “The position of the minister was bogus in a way because he was not specific in terms of areas of the economy that Nigerians will begin to feel the impact of Tinubu’s administration. As Nigerians, we are asking for security, we are asking for cheaper foodstuffs and our buying power should be good enough. So if the minister says things will soon get better, we will wait to see the manifestation of the reforms. But as it is now, it is a case of Nigerians hoping against hope.”

Govt officials spreading misleading economic statistics — Stephen Adewale

Former Ondo State chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Stephen Adewale, said, “Even though the administration keeps touting a strong economic outlook, we haven’t noticed the said improvement in the economy in our daily lives. The price of petrol is rising daily even with the purported recovery in the economy.

The value of the Naira is constantly depreciating on the global market, and the price of food and other necessities is rising every day. The government claims to be spending an alarming N1.8 trillion naira a year on power sector subsidies, but the power is more unstable than ever. Millions of citizens lack access to prepaid metres, and receive outrageous monthly bills from PHCN for electricity that is not supplied to them.

Businesses are closing down on a daily basis due to lack of electricity, the high cost of transportation, and other basic utilities. It’s unfortunate that government officials can be so callous that they keep making matters worse for people by ignoring their suffering and acting as though everything is okay in the nation by spreading misleading economic statistics.

Bagudu’s assessment unfounded, inaccurate —Moruff Balogun, Vice Chairman, NBA, Ijebu-Ode branch

Moruff Balogun, Vice Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, Ijebu-Ode branch, said the assessment of the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, that President Tinubu’s economic reforms have started bearing fruits is unfounded and inaccurate. He said, “Any economic policy that does not positively affect the lives of the people and improve their standard of living is nothing but a mere lip service. When President Tinubu took over the government, he openly announced the removal of fuel subsidy, and promised that the money recovered from it would be properly used to improve the welfare of the people of Nigeria. I doubt if the President and his cabinet are still being mindful of the said promise, because it clearly appears that the sufferings of Nigerians are being multiplied geometrically. One would expect stable electricity, affordable goods, including controlled commodities as stated under the Provisions of Price Control Act, maximum security, among others. I urge the President to engage sincere Nigerians who will tell him the whole truth of the state of the economy.

Mixed bag – Ambakederimo, S-South leader

Convener of the South-South Reawakening Group, Elder Joseph Ambakederimo stated that, “It is a mixed bag in terms of governance and policies of the government. In assessing any government, we must accept that government and governance are a work in progress; governance is never a hundred-meter dash; therefore, what has happened in the last year is what I have described as a mixed bag. We have lost some and we have made gains on some fronts.

The most important thing to look out for is that the president is focused and not distracted by unnecessary mundane things. He should continue to fine-tune his economic policies to enhance the living standards of the people.

There are gains made in the area of foreign investors’ renewed appetite in investing in Nigeria. However, there is much the government can do in terms of opening up critical sectors of the economy such as the oil, technological and power sectors. These are the areas that will spur economic growth.”
