Tottenham have been urged to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United in a move that would benefit Harry Kane.

Lingard’s contract at Old Trafford will expire in the summer and he looks set to move on a free, unless he gets a transfer in the January window.

The 29-year-old looked revitalised at the beginning of 2021 when he shined on a loan move to West Ham.

He grabbed nine goals and four assists in just 16 Premier League appearances, putting himself in contention for a place a Euro 2020.

Lingard headed back to Old Trafford and wanted to fight for a place at the club, but his progress has stalled once again.

He has played just 89 Premier League minutes this season from nine substitute appearances.

The midfielder does not intend to sign a new contract and there are plenty of clubs who would jump at the chance to sign him.

West Ham have made no secret of their desire to have him back at the London Stadium, where he quickly became a fan favourite.

Tottenham are also in the mix and have reportedly already approached his representatives over a summer move.

Spurs legend Clive Allen has backed the move and says striker Kane would be grateful to have him in the squad.

Allen told Weekend Sports Breakfast: “When he came to West Ham he was outstanding, when he spent some time in east London.

“He is a talented player and at the moment Spurs are looking for an injection. One, they need some creativity in that midfield area. 

“Harry Kane is looking a little frustrated at the lack of opportunities created for him.

“Someone of Lingard’s quality would be a fabulous addition.”
