Busia women in troubled marriages swap husbands

Two women in Busia county have swapped husbands.

Kevin Barasa and Lilian Weta, 28, have lived together as husband and wife for more than 10 years in Namwitsula, Butula constituency.

Until their surprise separation they had three children.

Their marriage has been marred with domestic quarrels.

Meanwhile, Christopher Bwire and Millicent Auma, living in Siroba village, Matayos constituency, were also having a tumultuous marriage.

Bwire and Auma have two children.

Last month, Auma left her home to live with Barasa in Namwitsula village.

Weta told the Standard it was at around 1am when Barasa arrived at home with Auma.

Weta said, “She [Millicent] told me that night she was officially the wife."

She continued, "My husband told me to go look for the Auma's husband and marry him. I asked him if he would be comfortable with me finding a new husband. He said yes."

Weta called her brother and sister not tell them what happened and her sister approved.

“They told me to do as my husband had said. In the morning I went to Bwire and told with him what happened."

Bwire asked her to go pick up her children and come stay with him.

Bwire confirmed that they were staying together as man and wife.

Before Auma left Bwire tried to look for her but did not trace her.

"I called Auma several times but she was not picking my calls so I gave up,” he said.

He added that between him and Barasa, one person may regret the decision.

“It is either me or him who will regret afterwards but for now I am happy with my new catch,” Bwire added

Barasa said he does not care where Weta is.

"If she has accepted to stay with Bwire, so be it."
