UK Wants to Increase Presence in Ethiopian Economy

The United Kingdom wants to consolidate and increase economic collaboration with Ethiopia, said the Secretary of State for International Development of the European country, Alok Sharma, in conversation with the Prime Minister of the African state, Abiy Ahmed.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister and Sharma held a meeting on Friday, where they discussed cooperation in various sectors and prospects for developing new projects, among other issues of bilateral interest, according to an official communication released in Addis Ababa.

During the meeting, the British official praised the process of political, economic and social reforms implemented since April 2018 in the territory located in the so-called African Horn, and considered that it favors the ties of his nation with Ethiopia.

We will continue to maintain strong and prosperous relationships through trade and investment, and my office will support your programs and development strategies, because we see this country as a very important partner for the United Kingdom, Sharma said.

Ahmed thanked the British authorities for their support of efforts to boost development, the fostering of investment opportunities and the interest in increasing participation in the Ethiopian economy.

The Secretary of State for International Development, who arrived in Addis Ababa for a working trip, visited the East Industrial Park on the outskirts of the capital on Thursday, along with the Deputy Chief Administrator of the regional state of Oromia, Shimelis Abdisa.
