Nigeria vs Cameroon: What I told my mates at half-time – Ighalo

Nigeria vs Cameroon: What I told my mates at half-time – Ighalo

Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has revealed what he told his teammates before the second half of their round of 16 encounter with Cameroon, saying the charge contributed to their resurgence in the second half of the tie.

The Shanghai Shenhua striker said he told his mates during the half-time break pep talk that Cameroon’s lead was not unassailable.

He said all his teammates agreed with him that they were doing better than their opponents but they just needed to assert their authority more on the game.

“I spoke to them in the dressing room; I told my teammates that if the Cameroonians could score two goals in three minutes, we too could do that in less time because we were playing better than them, we should just go out believing in ourselves. I told them nobody should be under pressure and the opportunities came and we did the damage,” Ighalo said.

The former Watford striker said his team were expecting a very physical game from their opponents.

“We thank God for the victory; we knew it was going to be a difficult game, Cameroonians were going to play a physical game but we knew we should be able to find some space to do the damage. Even though we were down, we believed if we kept on pushing, the goals would start coming in and they came,” he added.
