THREE schoolchildren who were siblings, were on Monday killed when a commercial vehicle ran over them on Kajola/Igbominasi highway in Ilesa, Osun State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the siblings were on their way to school when the incident occurred.
Residents of the area, following the accident, blocked the highway in protest against the recklessness of drivers.
The blockage led to a gridlock that made motorists seek alternative routes to reach their destinations.
An eyewitness told NAN that the bus ran over the pupils while on their way to school and they were rushed to a hospital before the police arrived.
“The police also towed the commercial bus away,” the source said.
Spokesperson for the police in the state, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident, just as she added that the police were on top of the situation to restore normalcy in the area.
She said details of the accident would also be made available late.
