[OPINION] OF POLITICS AND PROPHETS - Victor Oladokun

If there was one thing the 2020 U.S. elections brought into sharp focus, it was the combustive mix of politicians, prophets and profit.

As Candida Moss so eloquently reminds us, "If the past has taught us anything, it is that failed prophecies and frustrated predictions don’t always mark the beginning of the end for radical social movements."

The fact is, a number of fake prophets will always find ways to reinterprete their failed prophesies and reinvent themselves, in order to stay in business.

Some, chastened by the shocking non-fulfilment of their projections, have apologised, as they rightly should.

Many gullible followers with itching ears have been stunned into silence. Others are asking deep soul-searching questions. Of themselves and of those whose words they so easily believed.

Hopefully, moving forward, we will learn that -

1. God is neither a Republican nor a Democrat.

2. That God is Sovereign and He rules over the affairs of men and women.

3. Prophets and clerics always end up rolling in the mud when they tie their fortunes in with politicians.

Moving forward, prophets and clerics will do well to dwell on the Kingdom of God, rather than on the kingdoms of men.
