Nasarawa NLC, TUC Condemn Suspension Of Nationwide Strike, Protests

The leadership of organised labour in Nasarawa State has condemned the suspension of the nationwide strike and protests by the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Council (TUC).

They added that the suspension of the industrial action betrays the interest of Nigerian workers and the general public.

State chairman of NLC, Comrade Yusuf Sarki Iya and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Umar Mohammed Doma, expressed their feelings while featuring on a live news and current affairs programme “Stewardship” aired on a Nasarawa-based television station in Lafia on Monday.

While speaking on the programme, they both expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of labour/government negotiations last night which led to the suspension of the union’s planned industrial strike over hike in fuel prices and electricity tariff by the Federal Government.

The duo described the decision to suspend the strike without any concrete agreement on the reversal of the fuel price increase as a betrayal of the nation’s workers who are going through excruciating pains.
