Oyo: Makinde defeats Adelabu
 

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost its ruling status in Oyo State to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Mr. Seyi Makinde of the PDP yesterday emerged winner of the March 9 gubernatorial election in the state. Makinde defeated the governorship candidate of the APC and former deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Adebayo Adelabu (a.k.a. Penkelemesi). Makinde’s PDP polled 515,621 votes against Adelabu’s 357,984 in 33 local government councils of the state already released.

PDP won in 28 local government councils of against APC’s 5 Making the declaration yesterday at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Office, Agodi, Ibadan, after the Collation Officers from the 33 local governments in the State had announced their different results, was Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, who was the Returning Officer for the election. Makinde, an Ibadan indigene and an Electronics Engineering graduate from the University of Lagos from Ibadan North East Local Government, garnered 20,456 votes to beat Adelabu (former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria), who polled 13,277 in his Ibadan South East Local Government.
