Speaking during a working visit to the office of the governor of Imo State, Alex Otti, the organisation’s executives praised Otti for his achievements so far in office.
The delegation, which was led by the President General, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, said that the Ohanaeze leadership was interested in knowing how those elected into political offices from the South East were doing.
They told the governor that they had supported the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, in the last general election, because it felt that zoning favoured the Igbos to produce the next president, but with the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the election, Ohanaeze had already written the president, pledging the support of the Igbos to this government, in order to unite and develop Nigeria.
Chief Iwuanyanwu briefed the Governor about what Ohanaeze, under his leadership, had been doing to unite and develop Igbo land.
Responding, Governor Otti thanked the Ohanaeze leadership for finding time to visit him and commended them for the good work they were doing in preserving the interest of Ndigbo in Nigeria.

“I honestly feel like, and this is me talking from my personal experience, I feel like you’d get a better dating experience from a Nigerian girl living abroad than a Nigerian girl living here.
My reason is this [is] Nigerian girls living abroad, London, America or Canada are the minority in the dating pool over there. There are so much more ethnicities, so there are options and I don’t know if the average guy out there is looking for a Nigerian babe to date.
So when a Nigerian babe abroad catches you, you’re honestly the catch and she’d take care of you and she’d be happy to take care of you. A lot of Nigerian girls and a lot of my friends that are baddies, I know that if they were in Lagos they would literally be on their phones checking who to go on dates. But they’re out there on dating sites in another country.
When they catch a Nigerian man that has the same values as them, that understands their jokes and wants to watch the same shows, you’re the prize. But over here, they have options. Even the ones that aren’t the best looking”.
An Abia State Univerisity lecturer identified as Anucha Wisdom proposed to his fiancee in her classroom on Wednesday.
Pictures and videos now circulating on Facebook showed the moment Wisdom went down on a knee with a ring in his hands to propose to his lover who is said to be a student in the Optometry Deparment of the university in the presence of her colleagues.
The screaming from her colleagues became louder as she nodded to his proposal.

Sharing a video and pictures from the proposal, another Facebook user, Noble Ugo Anucha, wrote, “Hearty Congrats Dedem Anucha Wisdom. Dee Law and Daa Ngo is happily happy about this move. We have a wedding to plan. It is all to the glory Of God.”
A check on the Facebook page of the lecturer, Anucha Wisdom, showed that he was yet to post about the proposal.

Fourteen suspects allegedly being trained as potential internet fraudsters have been arrested in a three-bedroom apartment allegedly serving as their training center along Achusa Road, Makurdi, Benue State.
Laptops, ATM cards, phones, one Firman Generator and a Toyota Corolla car were recovered from the internet fraud trainees who were arrested by the operatives of the Makurdi Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, acting on intelligence.
The suspects are: Asongu Terungwa, Aese Sonter,Nyoosu Terungwa,John Kator, Udi Micheal Aodona, Terungu Mnyam, Iorwuese Terhide, Ule Francis, Imoter Gloor Emmanuel and Samuel Lubem.
Others include Wergba Tertamge, Erukaa Ephraim, Agenale Franklin and Abechi Toryila.
The suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded, Dele Oyewale, Head, Media & Publicity of EFCC said in a statement.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has submitted that all is not well with the northern region of the country and Nigeria as a whole.
According to the Sultan, the situation in the country has made people deeply frustrated, hungry, and resentful.
He added that insecurity and poverty are the two major issues that have been causing trouble for the people of the northern region as well as Nigeria as a whole and called on the Governors and other leaders to come together to find a solution to the challenges.
The traditional ruler, who is the Chairman of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council, made the call on Wednesday in Kaduna at the 6th Executive Committee Meeting of the Council, where he spoke on the theme: “Enhanced Security as a panacea for stability and development of the North.”
The Sultan said the people of the region have not revolted openly because the traditional rulers in their respective domains have been appealing to them. He prayed that a time would not come when the northerners would no longer listen to their appeals.
The Sultan was flanked at the meeting by the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir.
He lamented that with millions of youths left without jobs, education and food, Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder.
In his words, “We have had such meetings before with the Northern Governors, so many times at Kashim Ibrahim House. We have now entered into a new cycle of leadership, some new Governors have come on board, while some are having their second term and still we at faced with these insecurity issues. To make matters worse, we are faced with rising levels of poverty of most of our people; a lack of normal sources of livelihood for the common man to have even a good meal a day.
“But, I believe talking about insecurity and the rising level of poverty are two issues that we cannot fold our arms and think everything is okay. I have said it so many times and at so many fora that, things are not okay in Nigeria and of course, things are not okay in the North.
“What are the real issues bringing about poverty and rising cases of insecurity? I don’t think it is the issue of the new government. To me, this government is a continuation of the former government; it is the same party. So, what really is the problem? I think that is one of the reasons we are here to talk to ourselves.
“We owe it a duty to the teeming millions of people that believe in the traditional institution, to bring solutions to the various problems facing them. We will not fail in doing that. We will do our best.
“I have said so many times, that we never lack a solution to our problems, what we lack is implementation, because we meet today, we bring out so many beautiful ideas on how to solve our problems, and we go back to our various places and go to bed, leaving such solutions here in this conference hall. So, how do we implement them?
“This is why we invited the leadership Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) to come and interact with us on the outcome of a similar meeting they organized in Abuja. We also invited the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) to be part of us and talk to us too, because as elders, some of whom have been in politics, who have done a lot for the North and the Country. At the end of the meeting, we believe we will come up with various suggestions on how to resolve our numerous problems in the North.
“Education is important, so whatever issue you want to bring us here, you must talk about education, you must talk about health issues and of the two monsters that have been harassing all of us here that is insecurity and poverty.
“And let’s not take it for granted; people are quiet, they are quiet for a reason because people have been talking to them.; we have been talking to them, we have been trying to tell them things will be okay and they keep on believing. I pray to Almighty Allah that they will not one day wake up and say we no longer believe in you. Because that would be the biggest problem because we can’t quieten these people as traditional, spiritual leaders and diplomats forever.
“So, I think it is good we talk about these things and let us be very honest with ourselves, let us be very frank about what we are going to tell ourselves here; it is no time to hide things. We have reached that level, people are very agitated, people are hungry, they are angry, but they still believe there are people who can talk to them, they believe in some of their Governors, some other traditional rulers, and some of their religious leaders, fortunately, some of us double as traditional and religious leaders.
“So, we have this onerous task of reaching out to everybody, calming them down, and assuring them things will be okay, and they should continue to pray and pray and still do something good because prayer without work will not bring anything.
“We must find jobs for our teeming youths that are sitting idle and I have said it so many times, we sit on a keg of gunpowder, having teeming youths millions of them, without jobs, without food, we are looking for trouble.
He added though traditional rulers may not have the constitutional powers or resources available to Governors, they are ready to work with the political leaders to find a problem to the numerous challenges.
“But, we thank Allah we believe in ourselves, we believe in Almighty Allah to bring succour to all our problems and we will keep on praying and urging our political leaders, who we believe will do something better. We are only advisers to the political leaders, that is all we can do, but if we are empowered and as strong as the Governors by the constitution, by the amount of funds they get from the federal and state revenues, we can also be a lot.
“However, we are ready to work with the Governors, because we believe in them, we believe in what they are doing, and must work with them. And if the Governors too want to have peace and stability in their states, they must work with the traditional leaders.
“I believe at the end of this meeting, we should have very good suggestions to our political leaders, to our security chiefs, that when such is implemented, we will have a better North and at the same time have a better Nigeria,” the Sultan said.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged the government at all levels to take concrete measures to support Nigerians facing economic hardship and bring prosperity.
CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, made the call in a statement he personally signed as part Ash Wednesday/Lent message, where he also called for reflection and compassion.
He noted the spiritual importance of Ash Wednesday and the Lenten period, urging believers to practice self-examination and to live out the teachings of Jesus Christ by performing acts of love and compassion.
“Ash Wednesday and the Lenten season offer a timely opportunity for self-reflection, repentance, spiritual growth, and renewal. We are called to learn to love and show compassion like Jesus Christ in our everyday lives,” Okoh said.
“Our hearts go out to those struggling to make ends meet amidst financial uncertainty and limited access to basic necessities.”
Lamenting the current economic situation in Nigeria, he said, “I call on our leaders at every level of governance to acknowledge the severity of the economic issues confronting our nation and to take immediate, concrete actions to support individuals enduring economic hardship.
“This is a time for us to reach out to those in need and to advocate for sustained support from our leaders in lightening the loads of our fellow citizens. I called for a collective effort to forge a more inclusive and empathetic Nigerian society, one in which the burdens of the marginalized are lifted and their voices heard.
“Let us work together to create a Nigeria where compassion and support for our fellow citizens are at the heart of our values and actions,” Okoh said.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed concern about the President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s failure to resolve the persisting issues that prompted the union to go on strike last year.
Naija News reports that the union’s National President, Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed displeasure with the government while addressing a press conference in Umuahia, Abia State, on Wednesday, following the National Executive Council meeting held at Niger Delta University over the weekend.
Osodeke said, “The union undertook a comprehensive review of the state of its engagements with Federal and State Governments on how to reposition Nigeria’s public universities for a global reckoning by arresting the worsening living and working conditions in the universities and the nation at large.
“NEC was seriously alarmed by reports of the increasing number of Nigerian academics who have died or are currently nursing life-threatening ailments as a result of work-related stress and chronic pauperisation arising from failed promises by the governments and the general macroeconomic climate of the country and stated its desire to update Nigerians on developments since the suspension of our last national strike action on Friday, 14 October 2022 and our engagements with the current administration since its inception.”
Osodeke lamented that the Federal Government has recently been evasive in paying the backlog of Earned Academic Allowances, a portion of which was included in the 2023 Federal Universities Budget.
The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun has announced a N5bn palliatives in all sectors of the state economy.
The governor explained that the palliative was meant to cushion the socio-economic hardship experienced by residents of the state.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Wednesday evening, Abiodun noted that food palliatives for about 300,000 vulnerable households across the three Senatorial districts of the state have been approved.
He also stated that there would be gradual offsetting of outstanding deductions to state workers to the tune of N500m monthly.
The governor further announced N50,000 support for about 27,000 Ogun State students in tertiary institutions across the country, insurance package for 70,000 residents and pregnant women, among other palliatives.
The governor said, “As our administration acknowledges the concerns raised by many of our citizens regarding the rising food prices and shortages, coupled with the depreciation of the Naira, we identify with you and are taking proactive measures to alleviate the impact of these challenges to guarantee the welfare, well-being and wellness of our citizens in this difficult time.
“In this direction and through targeted interventions, we aim to address these challenges by implementing a series of phased initiatives aimed at alleviating these burdens on all our citizens.
“The state has taken the following steps: Education Sector: Providing a minimum of 5 exercise books for all 850,000 students in our public primary and secondary schools.
“We are providing a one-time N10,000 education support grant for at least 100,000 pupils in our public primary and secondary schools in the state. Providing all 27,600 indigent students in tertiary institutions nationwide with an education grant of N50,000 each.
“The State Government will commence to offset the backlog of inherited deductions. To this end, we are immediately committing N500 million monthly payment towards outstanding deductions. It is noteworthy that we have continues to pay N10,000 transport allowance to all civil servants for the last 8 months.
“This brings our total immediate interventions as a responsible State Government to about N5 billion across all sectors of the State economy.”
He noted that his administration would not be insensitive to the challenges being faced by the citizens, appreciating the people for their perseverance, patience and understanding.
Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) has said that troops of the command, operating under HAKORIN DAMISA IV, discovered a gun factory at a building in Pakachi Village of Mangu, a local government area of Plateau State.
The spokesperson of the operation, Captain Oya James, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that one suspect was apprehended in the building while the facility’s owner is currently at large.
He noted that the gun factory was discovered during a clearance operation by troops on rugged mountainous terrain, and a large number of firearms and ammunition were found.
According to James, the discovery of the gun factory comes amidst efforts by the security agencies to restore law and order in the Mangu general area, where a communal crisis resulted in the loss of lives and properties in recent times.
He said, “Troops of the operation discovered an isolated structure which turned out to be a weapons fabrication factory situated on a high ground in the village.
“The operation resulted in the arrest of Mr. Tapshak Plangji, a 25-year-old male, suspected to be involved in the illegal activities at the factory. The alleged owner of the facility, Mr. Nuhu Meshack, is currently at large, and efforts are underway to bring him to justice.
“Items recovered from the facility include: 5 AK 47 Rifles, 4 AK 47 Magazines, 11 Rounds of 7.62mm Ammunition, Rounds of 9mm Ammunition, 21 Dane Guns, 4 Revolver Rifles, 11 Pistols with 5 Magazines, 17 Gun Barrels, 6 Rounds of 0.44 Inch Ammunition, A Carbide Cylinder with Accessories , 3 Saws, 12 Filing Machines, 4 Hammers, 6 Manual Drilling Machines, 2 Electrically Operated Filing Machines, 2 G-Clamps, one Spraying Machine, one Tiger Generator, and Assorted Drilling Irons,” he explained.
“The successful operation was a testament to the commitment of the troops in collaboration with other security agencies in the fight against illegal arms proliferation and criminal activities within our communities.”

In a survey conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, some ladies say the dinner was usually to deflect attention from the major discussion of marriage.
A humanitarian worker who pleaded anonymity said that she had been dating her boyfriend for more than two years. Still, he had not proposed marriage despite the love they shared and his financial stability.
“No gift can impress me at my level, he has gifted me an iPhone for Christmas except he wants to buy me a house, he should just come and see my people,” she said.
Another lady, Miriam Dan, a civil servant, said that she had been in a relationship for more than four years, yet no formal marriage proposal was in view.
“I have given him an ultimatum. I am not getting younger and a woman’s body is a biological clock ticking, propose and forget about gifts.
“He only told me he would marry two years ago informally, but he has not seen my people yet,” she said.
A hairdresser, Salome John, said that even though she started dating her boyfriend in 2023, she would like to be proposed to and would support him in running the home.
“He is hardworking but he has not reached his breakthrough level, maybe that is what is delaying the proposal, but I can support him run the home, he should forget about gifts,” she said.
Alheri Davou, a food vendor, said that her boyfriend had prioritised building his house instead of settling down.
“I hope to be proposed to this time around not all these outings they organise. Am not impressed by that.
“Even though he said he is building, he can marry and then we continue because this project he is doing is over two years now,” she said.
A civil servant who pleaded anonymity said that she had been in a distant relationship for three years and was expecting a proposal not gifts.
“Distance is not a barrier, technology has made things easier, he can propose on WhatsApp, I want to be surprised,” she said.
Valentine’s Day is celebrated every Feb. 14 and it is usually associated with expression of affection with greetings and gifts.
It was not initially celebrated as a day of romance until the 14th century.
The day must have been taken from a priest named St. Valentine who is remembered for his selfless acts of help for couples.
Seven notorious kidnappers in Abuja have been arrested by operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command.
Naija News learnt that the police commissioner in FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, while parading the suspects at the command on Wednesday, said operatives of the Utako police division led by CSP Victor Godfrey in a coordinated operation at Tudun – Wada Lugbe and Pyakasa area of Trademore arrested the notorious kidnappers and recovered N9 million ransom from them.
He gave the names of the kidnappers as Usman Muazu from Kwali, FCT, Aliyu Mohammed, from the Pumpomare area of Borno state, Awwal Dahiru, who hails from Gwagwalada area council of the FCT, Rabi Sani, from Safana, Katsina state, Madina Abubakar, from Gulu, Lapai local government area of Niger state, Jonah Elimelech from Kauru, Kaduna state, Saminu Idris, from also from Kauru, Kaduna state and Mariji Iliya from Mangu, Plateau state.
Igweh said the suspects were linked to high-profile kidnapping cases in FCT and its environs, stating they have all confessed to their crimes and are giving useful information to aid the arrest of other gang members.
He said other exhibits recovered from the suspects included knives, cutlasses, bulletproof vests and charms.
CP Igweh further disclosed that 79 suspects were also arrested during raids on various black spots by the police operatives from Trademore, Galadimawa, Maitama and Gwagwalada in the FCT.
He, however, said the raid was part of the command efforts to rid FCT of crimes, as its operatives raided uncompleted buildings and also recovered substances suspected to be Indian hemp and some illicit drugs from the suspects.
He said, “And we speak, the suspects who have been profiled are in custody undergoing interrogation at respective division, while those found wanting will be charge to court.”
