ABUJA – The China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) has handed over phase one of $50 million dollars worth Federal University of Transportation Daura, Katsina State to the Nigerian government.
The Chairman of CCECC, Jason Zhang, hinted that the completion of the Federal University Daura, marked a significant milestone in the realisation and dedication through deliverance of long-expected vision, noting that the existence of the university would strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and the Republic of China.
According to him, “Federal University of Transportation, Daura is an investment by CCECC with the total amount of $50 million dollars as one of the ways in given back to Nigeria, to help in technical advancement.”
Zhang during the handover in Abuja explained that the implementation of this project has provided more than 600 jobs, and many technical exchange programs were conducted.
Responding, the Minister of Transportation who hosted the handing-over ceremony of the Federal University of Transportation, Nigeria (Phase 1), which was built by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and donated to Nigeria, stated that the completion of the Federal university Daura is indeed a huge achievement and of significant value for economic growth and social well-being through societal development.
Building the university he said was part of the corporate social responsibility by the Chinese contracting firm, CCECC.

A Kenyan man has allegedly committed suicide following the outcome of the 2023/24 English Premier League season, which Manchester City won on Sunday, May 19.
In a viral video seen by Pulse, the deceased, who was wearing an Arsenal FC jersey, was spotted in a position that seemed like he had hung himself to death.
It was gathered that the unknown man, whose identity is yet to be determined, was an Arsenal fan.
Man City and Arsenal entered the season's final day knowing that a slip from either of them would cost them the title.
However, Man City entered the final day of the season with a two-point advantage over Arsenal, with 88 and 86 points, respectively.
A win for Man City against West Ham at the Etihad would seal them a record fourth consecutive EPL title, while Arsenal also required a must-win against Everton at the Emirate stadium and a slip from Man City to secure their first EPL title in 20 years.
Man City eventually won the title after defeating West Ham 3-1, while Arsenal needed a late winner in stoppage time to defeat Everton 2-1.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanne, has explained why the company is investing a whooping sum of $6 billion in energy projects in Angola over Nigeria.
Pouyanne, who spoke with panellists of the Africa CEO in Kigali, Rwanda, said the inconsistency in policymaking decisions led to the diversion of the project from Nigeria to Angola, a country with a more stable policy framework.
The oil boss stated that although the Niger Delta is the most productive region in West Africa, the erratic policy environment has made investment untenable.
He added that TotalEnergies has not conducted oil exploration in the region for 12 years.
“Nigeria loves to open topics without closing them. You love to debate. There is always a new legislature in Nigeria about a new petroleum law. When you have such permanent debates, it’s difficult for investors looking for long-term structure to know what direction to go.
“In reality, the Niger Delta is the most prolific part of West Africa. But if you look at what happened, because of these debates, there has not been a single exploration in Nigeria for 12 years.
“It’s important to have a debate and then settle it and put a framework on the table that investors can trust.
“We have countries that have perfectly integrated policies like Angola. So, we go to Angola and announced a very large $6 billion projects in the beginning of the week because there their framework is stable. So we know where we go,” Pouyanne said.
Insecurity, lack of talent stifling investment
In addition, Pouyanne said that insecurity and the lack of human capital are two of the main issues facing investment in the country.
According to him, investors need the guarantee that their investments are secured and not exposed to violence and demolition.
He also added that the firm is training individuals to boost human capital and required talents needed in the oil and gas sector.
“What are the challenges? Security comes first. For a CEO like me, security of my people is of utmost important. Fortunately, we have customs in the Niger Delta to deal with it.
“We also have finding talent has a difficulty. In some countries like Nigeria and Rwanda, we find difficult to find talent. Some of them have difficulty in education. And we can contribute to that. That’s some of the things we do, training people,” he said.

In December 2023, TotalEnergies said it would invest as much as $6 billion in Africa’s biggest oil producer in the years ahead.
The energy firm said it will target deep-water projects and gas production at a time when international oil companies (IOCs) are shifting attention away from onshore to offshore operations in Nigeria.
Pouyanne had told President Bola Tinubu during a meeting in Abuja that the French company is in support of the current administration’s policies and push to resolve insecurity issues in the industry.

A sixty-three-year-old woman, Chinyere Nkwocha, has been arrested for operating a baby factory in Abia State.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), said the baby factory was uncovered by the Department of State Services (DSS), Abia State Command.
Ten victims were rescued from Umunkwa village, located in the Umuafai Ndume Ibeku area of Umuahia North Local Government, Abia State where Nkwocha operates.
The victims, aged between one and 24 years, included seven young girls, six of whom are pregnant, one lactating mother, and two boys who are minors.
NAPTIP said the suspects and the victims have been handed over to its Abia State Liaison Office for further investigation and appropriate action.
The Director-General of NAPTIP, Prof. Fatima Waziri–Azi, expressed concern over the increasing incidences of the buying and selling of babies and the proliferation of baby factories across the country.
She said in recent times, there have been alarming reports and public outcry regarding the sale of babies and the existence of facilities specializing in trapping young girls, recruiting men to impregnate them, and subsequently selling the babies after delivery.
Waziri-Azi in a statement by the Communication Officer of the agency, Adekoye Vincent, stated that the factories operate covertly and prey on the desperation and vulnerability of unsuspecting victims.
She said the operators of the factory often lure people with promises of financial gain or false assurances of care and support.
The Director-General, while commending the Abia State Command of the DSS for the successful operation, urged the public, especially parents, to be vigilant and ensure that their wards do not fall victim.

Mr. Sunday Adeyemi, a school owner in Ibadan, has reportedly disappeared with funds earmarked for students’ WAEC and NECO exam fees, leaving their educational prospects in jeopardy.
The shocking revelation came to light through Adejoke Lasisi, the founder of Planet 3R, who took to Facebook to share the distressing news.
According to her post, many parents had gone to great lengths, even borrowing money, to ensure their children could take these crucial exams.
However, their hopes were shattered when they discovered that the school had not registered their children for the exams despite collecting the fees.
Adejoke’s post was fueled by both anger and personal experience, as her younger brother had once been a victim of a similar incident. Fortunately, her family managed to rally support and funds to re-register him for the exams.
The school owner’s actions were described as a betrayal of trust, especially considering he had operated “The Lord’s Favour” school for more than two decades.
It was revealed that Mr. Adeyemi had allegedly sold off his properties, including his home and the school itself, to finance his escape abroad, leaving the students and parents in a state of disbelief and hardship.

Liverpool have officially confirmed that Arne Slot will be their manager from the 2024/2025 season.

A 61-year-old disabled Nigerian man, identified as Anthony Olubunmi George, risks being deported from the United Kingdom by the Home Office, despite spending 38 years in the country.
Naija News learned that George arrived in the UK at the age of 24 in 1986 from Nigeria and has since remained there with no criminal convictions.
According to the Guardian UK, in 2019, the 61-year-old experienced two strokes that had a significant impact on his ability to speak and move.
George reportedly said he no longer has any immediate relatives residing in Nigeria and has faced numerous episodes of homelessness.
He also admitted to losing track of the countless friends who have sheltered him over the years.
He said, “I don’t know how many different sofas I’ve slept on – too many to count. I don’t have my life, living the way I’m living now. My health problems since I had my stroke are my biggest worry. All I’m asking for is some kindness from the Home Office.”
George has submitted multiple applications for leave to remain in the UK, all of which have been denied by the Home Office, with the most recent rejection occurring on May 7, 2024.
In 2005, his previous solicitors submitted a falsified entry stamp in his passport, which has since been reported to the police and the legal regulatory bodies.
However, George, in an interview with the Guardian, revealed that he was completely unaware of the passport stamp until several years later.
According to his current lawyer, Naga Kandiah of MTC Solicitors, George’s difficulties can be attributed to his poor past legal representation.
In their latest rejection, the Home Office stated that the situation was not deemed exceptional.
Kandiah has filed an appeal challenging the most recent denial.
He said, “My client has been living in limbo for 38 years, with no family, has suffered two strokes and has no family left in Nigeria.
“His situation is not just because of Home Office policies but also because of poor representation by previous solicitors who failed to uphold professional integrity and ethical standards.”
A spokesperson for the Home Office, speaking with the aforementioned publication, said, “Applications have to be considered on their merits in accordance with the immigration rules, and applicants are responsible for demonstrating that they meet these rules.”
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has visited victims of a bomb attack at a mosque in Gadan village, Gezawa Local Government area of Kano State.
Obi, who visited the victims on their hospital bed at the Murtala Specialist Hospital in Kano on Sunday, condemned the attack and described it as a senseless act.
Speaking with reporters, Obi said it is really sad that such an attack can happen in the nation, adding that it was horrific seeing the victims.
Obi said he visited the victims to show solidarity and support in their care in one way or the other and to also commend the hospital management.
He said: “This is very horrific and remains very condemnable. It’s sad this can happen in our nation today. Nobody can say why this young boy can do a thing like this to his own family members and the society.
“We remain in solidarity condemning such act at the people. My reason for coming here is to show that solidarity and support in their care in one way or the other and the hospital management in what they are doing and again condemn this senseless act of violent killing.
“We therefore condoled with the government and the good people of Kano as well urged all as a country to stand together in fighting such a senseless act.”
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Husseini Muhammad said a total of 23 victims were received in the hospital out of which 15 have passed away while eight were remaining and receiving medical treatment.
Muhammad commended the former Governor of Anambra State for the visit, which he said signifies the unity and oneness of the country.
He revealed that seven of the patients were seen in Surgical Ward C while one was in critical condition in Mother ICU of the hospital.
Nollywood actress, Caroline Danjuma, also known as Carolyna Hutchings, has threatened to take legal action against Nigerian singer, Oritsefemi, over claims that she was legally married to Davido’s late friend and associate, Tagbo Umeike.
Naija News reports that Oritsefemi, in a recent interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, said he never wanted to marry his estranged wife, Nabila Fash, but was pressured into marrying her after Caroline told her to do so following her marriage to Tagbo.
He said, “I told my ex-wife that I only need a baby boy. That was our agreement. I never intended to marry her. It was Caroline Danjuma. Caroline went and did a court wedding with the late Tagbo. After the wedding, she told Nabila that she had married Tagbo and urged her to make sure I marry her.”
However, Caroline, in a statement through her publicist, Bodex Hungbo, dismissed Oritsefemi’s claims, stating that she had never been married to any man except her ex-husband, Musa Danjuma.
She further urged Oritsefemi to provide all evidence, including pictures of the purported marriage to Tagbo.
The statement reads, “DISCLAIMER!!! This is to address the attempt to defame our client, Dr Carolyna Danjuma Hutchings @carolynahutchings (Actress producer and property developer) via a concerted effort by an unscrupulous individual known as Mr Orisefemi.

One person died, and several properties were damaged when a fire broke out at the Bishop Crowther Memorial Seminary School, Awka, Anambra State capital.
The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained, but it was gathered that the incident occurred around 11.30 pm on Saturday.
It was also gathered that the fire damaged the school’s hostel, including mattresses and other students’ belongings.
The victim, a student who died in the incident, was said to have been taken to a mortuary.
Confirming the incident via a statement from the Media Unit of Anambra State Fire Service, on Sunday, the state Fire Service Chief, Chukwudi Chiketa, said firefighters and a fire truck were deployed immediately to the scene of the incident and the fire was contained.
According to the statement, the fire chief had visited the school on Sunday for inspection, where the principal narrated how the fire affected a part of the school’s hostel.
The statement was titled, ‘Update on the incident that occurred in Bishop Crowther Seminary, Awka’.
It read in part, “The Anambra State Fire Service Chief arrived at Bishop Crowther Memorial Seminary School, Awka at 10:55 a.m. on Sunday, for a firsthand inspection and assessment of the level of damages caused by the fire outbreak that occurred on Saturday night in the school.
“Recall that Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call at 11:30 pm, on Saturday, May 18, 2024, which reported a fire outbreak in one of the school’s hostels. Our firefighters and one of the fire trucks were deployed immediately to the scene of the incident, and the fire was contained.
“The cause of this fire is still unknown, but it’s confirmed that one of the students died at the scene and has been taken to a mortuary.
“The school Principal, Ven. Dr Emendu, who received the fire chief, narrated how the fire affected a part of the school’s hostel, damaged everything, including mattresses and other students’ belongings therein, and left one dead. According to the principal, there was no other casualty, and no injury was recorded.”
Emendu commended the state fire service, stating that they arrived promptly and prevented the fire from further escalation to other parts of the building.
“The Fire Chief sympathised with the school management and the entire students of Bishop Crowther Memorial Seminary School, urging them to take heart as God will console them in his own way.
“He also commiserated with the family of the deceased, who at the time of the visit were still on their way to the school, stating that it’s always painful and heartbreaking to lose a child, not to talk of in such a situation of fire outbreak. He prayed to God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss,” the statement read.
Advising the public, the Fire Chief reiterated that fire kills, but it can be controlled.
He urged the people to always be safety conscious, and also, be careful in all that they do.
