Popular Nollywood actor turned politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that all presidential candidates in the 2023 general elections copied the agenda of Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi.
Recall that Okonkwo was the spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council in the last election.
The staunch supporter of the ‘Obidient’ movement asserted all the presidential candidates in the last election ended up duplicating Obi’s agenda without learning the routes the former Governor of Anambra State wanted to achieve those things.
According to him, Obi, apart from knowing what he wanted, had the commensurate competence, capacity and character to thrive, lacking in the other candidates.
Speaking further during a recent chat with Arise TV, Okonkwo lampooned the incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for accepting a position within the administration led by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okonkwo believes that Wike’s decision reflects the diminishing relevance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigerian politics.
Okonkwo agreed with Peter Obi, who recently stated that the Labour Party would embrace its new role as the country’s primary opposition party.
He emphasized that the Labour Party, with its strong agenda and significant support across all six geopolitical zones, has solidified its position as the main opposition party.
“To take you back to the time of the campaigns, you may remember that Peter Obi was the only person who crafted the seven-point agenda that all the other parties were copying from, albeit doing a terrible job at it.
“You may remember he was the one who came out as a candidate and defended his agenda, which included security and uniting the country.
“If you checked all these people (the presidential candidates), you would realize that they were simply copying from him without learning the routes he wanted to achieve those things.
“Apart from knowing exactly what he wanted, he had the commensurate competence, capacity and character to thrive, which are lacking in the other candidates,” Okonkwo said.
He added: “So that’s why he’s now saying we are the main opposition party. So he has earned the accolade of being the main opposition leader. And I will tell you that he will do it effectively well pending when Nigeria would realize the dream of a new nation through him.
“And in all honesty, PDP is not in existence in the political realm of Nigeria. Because let’s take an example of what is happening in the PDP.
“A presidential aspirant of the PDP (Wike) who was the first runner-up during the presidential primary election of the party, and who vowed that he would never leave the party no matter what, is now a minister in the APC, telling you that PDP has totally been absorbed by the APC.”

Several reactions have trailed the construction of a multi-billion-naira International Worship Centre by the Akwa Ibom State Government.
The edifice, which construction started in 2021 under the Udom Emmanuel administration, reportedly cost N32.3 billion naira.
Former Governor Udom, who built the church, had said it was of great significance to a state named after God and consisting of a 99% Christian population.
Emmanuel added that the building would be an altar that will perpetually draw God’s pleasure and blessings to the people of the state.
Following the development, residents of the state had faulted the rationale behind the project, labelling the project as a “misplaced priority”.
However, the state government dismissed the critics, saying they were hypocrites.
Although the former governor said the church would be completed at the end of 2022, the inauguration was moved to May 28, 2023.
In an X post on Tuesday, Govenror Umo Eno disclosed that government officials and other political stakeholders held a “Special Inter-denominational Thanksgiving/New Year Service” at the worship centre.
He wrote: “As we usher in the new year, I joined my wife, Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno, Deputy Governor, Her Excellency, Dr Akon Eyakenyi, members of the State Executive Council, and esteemed political stakeholders in a Special Inter-denominational Thanksgiving/New Year Service at the International Christian Worship Center, Uyo.”
The post by the governor has sparked fresh criticisms on social media platforms with many criticising the rationale behind the construction.

Naija News recalls that in December 2022, Portable welcomed a child with Keji, the singer’s third baby mama.
The singer was, however, said to have sent her away last year after the pair made several allegations against each other.
Last week, Portable performed at the Oshodi Day carnival in Lagos, while Koko Zaria, was also present at the event. There were rumours that Koko Zaria took Keji to the carnival.
But in an Instastory rant, Portable accused Koko Zaria of having an affair with his baby mama, adding that Keji has been taking his son with her anytime she wants to see her lover.
Portable pleaded with MC Oluomo to tell Koko Zaria to return his son and threatened to beat up the NURTW official if he failed to return his son to him within seven days.
In response to the accusation, Keji, in a post via Instagram, said it has been over three months since Portable sent money to their son, except for his birthday shoot.
She further urged Portable to provide evidence of money sent for their son’s upkeep.
She wrote:
“You said you are giving my baby money. Please Mr man, when last have you sent money? Over three months now, I don’t think you sent any money, talkless of food money, what nonsense are you capping online, you sent only his birthday shoot money, which money did you now say you sent, can you help me sent the screenshot in case I’ve forgotten. Am I not the one feeding my baby myself. you will not say you’re not giving others money for their food ooo but mine is the issue for you.”
The Idoma Area Traditional Council (IATC) in Benue State, under the leadership of the paramount ruler, Och’Idoma, His Majesty Eliagwu Odogbo, has imposed a limit of N50,000 for all traditional marriage rites in Idoma land.
Additionally, the Council has mandated the immediate cessation of the tradition of returning the deceased body of an Idoma daughter from her husband’s residence to her paternal home for burial. This practice will only be permitted in situations involving multiple marriages.
During its recent meeting in Otukpo, the traditional headquarters of the Idoma-speaking tribe in Benue state, the Idoma Area Traditional Council introduced significant reforms. Among these changes, the Council prohibited extravagant burial ceremonies in Idoma land.
Part of the resolutions of the Council read: “The Idoma Area Traditional Council, after wide consultation with rulers, political leaders, and most importantly our God-given subjects, have come to the informed conclusion that some self-imposed, barbaric, and harsh cultural practices be expunged from the practice of our culture and tradition.
“Our deliberations arrived at the following conclusions for the immediate adherence of all true Idoma people clans, tongues, and people under the Idoma Area Traditional Council.
“The Traditional Bride Price in Idoma land is hereby unified and fixed at N50,000 only.
All forms of stringent conditions, stipulations, and expectations associated with traditional marriage are hereby removed and prohibited.
“The Imposition of costly prescriptions, stipulations, and requirements on the bereaved family for the burial rites of a deceased person is hereby prohibited, in Idoma land. Burial rites should be conducted within affordable means of the family and as much as possible, concluded within two to three weeks from the date of death.
“The practice whereby relatives deny and deprive the children and wive(s) of the deceased of their right to inheritance of the deceased’s property, is hereby prohibited. For the avoidance of doubt, where the deceased is survived by wife(s) and children, such children and wife(s) shall have the right of first consideration, in the apportioning of the inheritance, in the absence of a Written Will.
“A deceased’s wife shall be buried in her husband’s place, except in special circumstances where the wife during her lifetime, was married to and had children for more than one man; in which case, the wife may be buried in her father’s place to allow other husbands and children to partake in the burial rites.
“The indiscriminate burial of corpses within and around the community, especially in residential areas is prohibited, forthwith. Every community is mandatorily required to, within a period not later than 31st December 2024, earmark and designate a place in each village or hamlet, as a Burial Ground, to bury corpses.
“Where for any special reasons, a person has to be buried within or around the compound, the permit of the Traditional Ruler must first be sought and obtained and such burial spot or grave must be marked and secured.”
A former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has submitted that the current system of governance in Nigeria is too expensive for the country.
He asserted that the country can not afford the financial burdens of running such a system of governance.
According to him, any government that comes to power and fails to address the issue of the high cost of governance is simply not ready to get the job done.
Naija News reports that Ologbondiyan made the submission on Wednesday during an interview with Arise TV.
While berating the government of President Bola Tinubu, the PDP chieftain stated that most of the 2024 budget figures are simply fake in terms of allocation and implementation.
He questioned the reality of the amounts quoted in the budget and the actual things they are expected to cater for, saying what is happening is mainly “audio budgeting and audio implementation.”
In his words, “Anybody who is going to preside over this country- and I remember that we were very clear about that in the People’s Democratic Party- and is not going to touch the cost of governance is just not ready. Because to be honest, we cannot afford this system of government as a people. Until we agree to that truth, we aren’t going anywhere. So, it’s not enough to say oh, things look different.
“If you go to the issue of budgeting 100 billion for the feeding of students, the question that Nigerians have been asking- where are those students? Where are they doing the feeding? Who are those responsible? Where is it happening? So, most of these budget process, they are audio. That’s just the truth. It’s audio budgeting and audio implementation. So, you cannot be saying that you budget a particular amount for defence, you budget a particular amount for education, but you’ll now go to national assembly in a multiplying order and make a budget. I think we should be honest with ourselves on their budgeting.”

AdminAn undercover journalist, Umar Audu, has revealed how his degree certificate from a Cotonou-based University in Benin Republic was delivered to him like pizza.
Recall that Audu got his certificate within six weeks.
Audu, in an investigative report titled, ‘How Daily Nigerian reporter bagged Cotonou varsity degree in 6 weeks’, exposed a booming certificate racketeering syndicate in Benin Republic and Togo, that specialises in selling university degrees to willing buyers in Nigeria.
According to him, the certificate was delivered like pizza after payment was made.
“This certificate will be delivered to you just like you ordered for a pizza or something and you give them your location and it is delivered to you. That was what motivated me to conduct this investigation,” he said on Channels Television.
He went on to recall how a similar investigation led to the Federal Government taking certain decisions in 2018, adding the practice has continued despite the government’s pronouncements.
Audu received a certificate and transcript with the authentic scan code of Ecole Superieure de Gestion et de Technologies, ESGT.
He also revealed that he never left the shores of the country during the period of the investigation and got the certificates at a very affordable price.
It was the same fake university certificate that he used to file in and participate in the compulsory one year National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, programme, without being detected.

Veteran Nigerian singer, Innocent Ujah Idibia, aka 2Baba, has lamented that the successes of young artists have seemingly reduced his status to the level of an “upcoming artist”.
The ‘African Queen’ crooner while applauding the young artists for their achievements, vowed to return to the spotlight this year.
2Baba hinted at releasing new music later in the year.

Big Brother Naija reality show star, Pere Egbi has alleged that some of his colleagues are living “fake” lifestyles.
He said a lot of them flaunt lifestyles that are far out of their reach on social media.
Pere spoke in the latest episode of the Spill With Phyna podcast, hosted by former Big Brother Naija winner, Josephine Otabor, simply known as Phyna.
He said, “Some of our BBN colleagues dey live fake life well well. A lot of them.”

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu, argues that Nigeria’s economy has always been bad.
Moghalu stated that the economy became good under the administration of Olusegun Obasanjo, late Umar Musa Yar’adua and Goodluck Jonathan.
Making his argument in a statement released on his official X account, the former apex bank chief said that Nigeria’s economy fell under incompetent economic management in 2015 after the end of the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

“You cannot redistribute it when you haven’t created it. You are simply recycling poverty. If we invest HEAVILY in achieving 20,000 megawatts of electricity and free education based on a 70% science and technology/TVET based curriculum over the next 4-5 years, and drastically cut the cost of governance, the true foundation for our future prosperity would have been laid. It can be done. But the patterns of thought of our political class are a real obstacle. Real economic thinking is NOT happening, so economic transformation can’t follow. Like it or not, individuals in certain positions matter. Sanusi and Ngozi Okonjo Iweala made a huge difference in their roles. That’s because they had CAPACITY. Their appointments went above politics of cronyism. The results, which is what matters more than sound and fury at the end of the day, followed.
“It was an empowering and enabling experience and environment to have worked with both of them in economic thinking and policy formulation. We kept the politicians at the gates. When the agbada people took over completely and competent technocracy was treated with scorn ever since and up till today, it’s been a sad story. May we recover one day. Like it or not, appointments have real consequences.”
Nigerian celebrities and fans commemorated late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, on social media, marking what would have been his 28th birthday.
Mohbad, previously associated with Marlian Records, passed away at 27 on September 12, 2023. He had left the label to start his own, ‘Imolenization’.
The Lagos State Police Command had launched an investigation following debates over the circumstances of Mohbad’s death.
His body was exhumed for an autopsy on September 21, 2023. A nurse involved in his treatment before his passing was also arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the autopsy was completed, with results pending.
The official findings from the autopsy have not been released to the public as of now.

Renowned Fuji musician based in Ibadan, Taye Adebisi, widely known as Taye Currency, shared his financial liberation story involving the late former Governor of Oyo State, Christopher Alao-Akala.
According to Taye Currency, the ex-governor financially supported him by giving him N99 million for his governorship campaign in 2011. The musician disclosed this during his performance as one of the guest artists at the annual Oshodi Day event on December 27, 2023.
Christopher Alao-Akala, who has received both praise and criticism for his philanthropic endeavours, was known for his generous contributions to various causes.
Akala’s campaign Director-General during his re-contested governorship election in 2015 under the Labour Party, Kola Balogun, said Akala was called ATM by people because he was a natural philanthropist.
Balogun emphasized that Akala’s governance style ensured financial well-being for the people, putting money directly into their pockets.
In his narration, Taye Currency revealed that he confronted Akala, who was the Governor at the time, in his Ogbomoso residence. He raised concerns about the delayed funds that were supposed to be allocated to him for the campaign rallies conducted on Akala’s behalf.
Taye Currency attributed his boldness to a previous incident where he had challenged the late Lamidi Adedibu for not receiving royalties as one of the prominent campaign mobilizers for the state chapter’s Peoples Democratic Party.
He recounted how the late politician, Adedibu, visited his home, offering apologies and assuring him that things would improve following his outspoken expression of discontent.
He said, “I want to share a story of how my life was turned around for good and how I became what I am today. In 2010, I was invited, along with many others, to join the campaign trail for the late Governor Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala.
“The show promoter in charge of paying me for singing during the campaign wouldn’t pay me on time. He would often delay my payment, sometimes by up to three days.
“One fortunate day, I was in the late Governor’s residence when he stepped out. I started screaming and shouting that I hadn’t been paid for my show at the campaign and that I wouldn’t be returning to perform on stage anymore.
“Akala asked me to approach him and demanded an explanation for my outburst. I told him I was owed N500,000 and had not been paid yet.
“He was surprised and then called on his First Lady, Kemi Alao Akala, instructing her to be in charge of paying me whenever I performed on stage for the rest of the campaign.
“Akala then instructed that N99 million be paid to me straight away for campaigns in the 33 Local Government Areas of the state. That was how I made it.
“Just like that, I was shocked. After I settled everyone, I still had N60 million left,” he stressed.
Taye Currency was appointed the Culture Ambassador in Governor Seyi Makinde’s first term because of his active role during the Governor’s campaign.
Adding to his accomplishments, Taye Currency’s son, Yusuf Adebisi, secured a seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly, representing Ibadan South-West Constituency 1.
This achievement led to Taye Currency being affectionately recognized with the notable title of “Baba Honourable.”
A group of bandits terrorising the communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has reportedly set a ransom of N300 million for the release of 13 individuals who were kidnapped recently.
It could be recalled that the assailants abducted residents of Kurudu Extension, located in the Bwari Area Council of the FCT, last week.
The attack was extended to the nearby Azu village in Niger State.
Speaking with journalists earlier, the Madaki of Kuduru, Kure Zaphaniya, confirmed the ransom demand disclosing that the kidnapped victims were four children, and the abduction took place amidst sporadic shooting in the area.
“From my own community, which is Kuduru Extension, 13 people, including four children, were abducted by bandits. And the next day, the bandits’ leader called through a phone of one of the victims and demanded N300 million as a condition for the release of the victims,” Daily Trust quoted Zaphaniya saying.
Despite acknowledging the swift response of certain army personnel to a distress call during the bandits’ assault in the community, he stated that negotiations were still in progress.
However, the FCT Police Command is yet to respond to the latest claims as of the time of filing this report.
