On January 11, 2024, Brigadier General Mohammed Aminu, the Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, turned over 365 packages of Cannabis Sativa, each about the size of a pawpaw and collectively weighing approximately 176kg, to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Ogun State Command.

This was made known by the command on its X page on Saturday.

The suspect was apprehended during a routine patrol on January 6, 2024, at Olodo Imeko along the Imeko-Abeokuta Road in Ogun State.

Representing the Commander, the Garrison Commander, Colonel Legborsi  Nule, affirmed the Brigade’s ongoing collaboration with security agencies to combat crime, emphasising their commitment to maintaining high standards and professionalism among troops.

Commandant of NDLEA Ogun State Command, Jane Odili, praised the Brigade’s efforts and called for increased collaboration with the military and other security agencies in the state.

Since a documentary by the British Broadcasting Corporation’s ‘Africa Eye’ about the late preacher, Prophet TB Joshua, of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, was released earlier in the week, the media has been agog with people holding different views about the controversies that surrounded the late cleric.

The three-part documentary alleged that the late cleric was guilty of raping and torturing some of his church members. It also claimed that the prophet staged some of his miracles.

As the controversy continues to rage, Saturday Beats recalls that some entertainers had been to the church for one reason or the other over the years.

In 2013, a popular actor, Jim Iyke visited the SCOAN. In a video that went viral at the time, Iyke was purportedly being ‘delivered’ from an evil spirit. The spirit, allegedly speaking through him, claimed to have been tormenting the actor’s life, and threatened to destroy Joshua.

However, in a subsequent interview, Iyke stated that he had been advised to take his ailing mum to the church for healing, adding that he was desperate. He said, “I will never be desperate again. Desperation took me there, believing the man of God would heal her (his mother).”

Another actor, Hanks Anuku, stated that he was taken to the church, where he was allegedly healed of a mental illness. Speaking in an interview, he said, “Yes, I got my healing through TB Joshua. It is our Lord’s doing. I was having issues with mentality (sic) for over seven years. You will notice I have not been that frequent in movies for long. I spent so much money visiting hospitals, orthodox and unorthodox doctors without positive results, until I was introduced to T.B Joshua. I was only watching his TV programme in Ghana and was healed.”

However, at different times in 2023, pictures and videos of Anuku appearing unkempt surfaced on social media, with some of his colleagues and fans expressing concern that he was mentally unstable.

A rapper and former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Munachi Abii, also visited the church at some point and allegedly met with Joshua, though her reason for going there was not disclosed.

Some years ago, a singer, Victor AD, had also claimed that Joshua healed him of skin disease when he was just six years old. Reiterating the impact Joshua had on his family, AD took to social media during the week to state that the late prophet cured his sister of blindness, and healed his mum of a gunshot injury on her hand. He added that the prophet was kind to his family.

A former Big Brother Naija contestant, Kesiena Adjekpovu, simply known as Kess, also pledged his unwavering support for the late Joshua in the wake of the documentary’s release. He wrote on X, “T.B. Joshua is still my pastor. BBC should try again.”

Yet, another former BBN housemate, Chukwuemeka Okoye, aka Frodd, stated that the late Joshua gave him a scholarship when he was in the university, and also gave him an allowance of N8000 every day in 2010.

A veteran actress, Fausat Balogun, aka Madam Saje, also pledged her support for the late prophet. Reposting a video of one of the late cleric’s sermons, she opined that his impact and the fight he led for the betterment of lives could not be overshadowed by any claims or institutions, including the BBC.

MT Tura II Scandal: How cabal stole crude oil from Nigeria for 12 years - Vanguard News

Niger DeltaBarely 24 hours after the Nigerian Navy, led by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, launched a new outfit, “Operation Delta Sanity” with pomp in Warri, Delta State, to halt oil theft, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd (TSSNL), in collaboration with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has arrested another vessel allegedly engaged in stealing crude oil in Niger Delta.

The vessel, MT Kali with number 8782800, was intercepted on Thursday while allegedly transporting a voluminous tonnes of illegal crude oil from offshore Sokebolou Field base in Bayelsa State.

TSSNL, a pipeline surveillance security firm, is owned by a former militant commander in the oil-rich Niger Delta, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo.

Among those arrested and kept in custody aboard the vessel as of Friday night are Promise Eze and David Adeboye who were identified as the engineer and captain of the vessel.

Adeboye was quoted as saying their accomplices included some folks in some oil communities in Bayelsa State.

Feelers had it that the crew and their local accomplices were engaged in the act of siphoning crude oil into the vessel from offshore Sokebolou Field in Bayelsa State when the combined operatives of TSSNL and NSCDC swooped on them.

It was gathered that the first manifold of the vessel was being loaded with the crude oil before the interception of the security operatives.

TSSNL is said to have intimated the incident to the National Security Officer (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and the board and management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL).

The two principal suspects, Eze and Adeboye were grilled by the Executive Director, Operations, TSSNL, Captain Warriedi Enisuoh.

He said the vessel was mobilised from Lagos to load crude oil illegally from offshore locations in Bayelsa State.

Ekiti State-born Adeboye, according to Enisuoh, said the vessel departed Lagos following assurances by their boss, whom they identified as one Adeniyi, that all security agencies (which he didn’t name) along the shore had been “settled” for a free passage.

He, however, identified the thieving company’s name as San-San

Meanwhile, the thieving vessel, MT Kali, is said to have been anchored at an NNPCL location in Oporoza, the headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State, while further investigation are said to be ongoing.

The Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has raised the alarm over proliferation of ladies allegedly infected with HIV/AIDS roaming the streets of Gombe, the capital city, with the sole aim of infecting unsuspecting men.

The Command warned men who patronise cheap ladies and young girls to be cautious and confirm the HIV status of their “side chicks” in order not to fall victims.

Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Bello Muazu, said that the revelation followed the arrest of an 85 years old man (names withheld) who was said to have lured uncountable number of young girls into sexual intercourse and after examination, was confirmed to be HIV positive including his four wives.

While briefing newsmen on the Command’s activities for 2023, the State Commandant warned members of the public against illicit sexual relationships, adding they must ensure they confirm the status of their sex mates before engaging in any sexual relationship.

“HIV is like a time bomb in Gombe because the prevalence rate is alarmingly high. Many unsuspecting carriers are in their window period, as such, we are warning men to watch out and confirm the HIV status of their ‘Side Chicks’.”

Muhammad Muazu also revealed that the Command faced serious challenges with some NGOs who are backing same-sex relationships and marriage, a situation that had been prevalent in the state and involving many youths below 25 years.

Meanwhile, the State Government had ordered the closure of all nightclubs in the state popularly known as ‘Gala Houses’ where these activities were taking place without any hindrance.

He stated however that throughout the hurdles with the pro same-sex NGOs, the Command was on the same page with the Human Rights Commission of Nigeria which resulted in the successes achieved in the operations against immoral activities involving youths in the state.

He also said that the Command had done its best under the purview of its mandate to meet the demands and needs of the public in seeking justice and settling disputes.

Recall that the Gombe State Government had set up a committee over the issue of same-sex relationships and marriage in order to ensure that the state is free of such in line with the relevant laws of the country.

The Convener, Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, has said President Bola Tinubu is tackling insecurity successfully because no political godfather placed him in power.

Yakubu noted that Tinubu’s non-tolerance for corruption has shown the world what he is made of, adding that no one can control and distract him.

The Arewa chieftain stated this during an interview with the The Sun.

When asked if Tinubu should probe the ministers of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Yakubu responded in the affirmative.

He insisted that Tinubu’s emergence as the President of Nigeria was as a result of hard work, determination and the will of God, hence he is free to fight corruption and insecurity to a standstill.

He encouraged the president to probe ministers from the former administration who might have skeletons in their cupboards.

According to him, “With what is happening now and the actions Mr President has taken so far, he is telling Nigerians and the whole world the stuff he is made of. And his actions are signs of good things to come.

“Tinubu is ready to take head-on anybody who wants to boast of a godfather somewhere or feels he or she is a sacred cow that cannot be touched. This is because Tinubu’s emergence as the President is divine. Nobody can claim he made Tinubu President.

“He campaigned and promised to tackle most of these issues, particularly the issue of corruption, revival of the economy and boosting of power and insecurity.

“So he has the backing of Nigerians. In fact, the actions he had taken in the last few weeks have overshot his ratings. His ratings have greatly improved among Nigerians. We encourage him to probe anybody found wanting from the past administration of President Buhari.”

A former Military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, popularly known as IBB, has said he tried to be friends with the late human rights lawyer and activist, Gani Fawehinmi.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Friday night, Babangida stated that during his tenure as Head of State, he employed all possible means to make the deceased his friend.

The former military president said Fawehinmi was a very good friend with one of his ministers, Alex Akinyele, who tried to make them very good friends but failed.

Babangida added that in the process of formulating many of his policies, he always queried members of his inner circle on the reaction he would receive from Fewehinmi.

Babangida described the late lawyer as a good critic, saying he valued his comments on national issues and loved listening to his views.

He said: “If we come up with a policy, my first question to my staff was: What would Gani Fawehinmi say? I like listening to him. I made it a point to become his friend.

“He was very friendly with one of my former ministers, the late Alex Akinyele. They were very good friends, and he (Alex) tried to make us very good friends.

“Fawehinmi was a good critic, and he didn’t want to be seen with someone that people already perceived as ‘an evil genius’.”

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi, has said that it would be difficult to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.

Recall that the 2023 presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, had suggested that political parties should merge together to form a strong opposition against the APC.

The former Vice President warned against the likelihood of Nigeria slipping into a one-party state.

He said, “We have all seen how the APC is increasingly turning Nigeria into a dictatorship of one party. If we don’t come together to challenge what the ruling party is trying to create, our democracy will suffer for it, and the consequences of it will affect the generations yet unborn.”

Speaking during an interview with The Punch, Abdullahi, the PDP Deputy Publicity Secretary, said Atiku made the call to protect the future of Nigeria.

Abdullahi insisted that only a coalition of political parties would successfully push out President Bola Tinubu-led APC administration from power.

He said, “We believe only merger or coming together of all opposition political parties will produce a better result. So there is a need for other political parties to understand that it will be difficult to defeat the All Progressives Congress without a merger.

“So the other political parties must see the reason and identify with the PDP’s clamour for coalition. So, if they see this, then the better for Nigeria’s opposition and the people.

“But if other political parties want to go about it individually, they are not as strong as the PDP. It is very difficult for us to attain the objective of taking charge of the government and sacking this army of occupation that has decided to inflict maximum penury and anguish on Nigerians.”

An official of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Inspector Bulus Joel was on Tuesday allegedly killed by a suspected hit-and-run driver on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to an eyewitness account, the 43-year-old inspector was on official duty at 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday when the car struck him down along the expressway corridor, injuring his head severely.

Another anonymous source stated that the deceased was on a routine patrol along with his other colleagues when they discovered there was traffic congestion in the corridor.

While attempting to relieve traffic congestion, a car allegedly ran off his line and knocked the officer to the ground.

The eyewitness said, “It was as if the driver intentionally knocked down the officer because he didn’t stop even after seeing that he had knocked down a police officer.

“I’m also shocked that none of the other motorists made any attempt to pursue him. He was taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for medical attention.”

However, Inspector Joel was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.

Confirming the unfortunate occurrence to New Telegraph on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola said; “Policemen are human. And they also have family members. Did no one see the driver knock down a police officer who was on duty and who was helping to ease traffic? Social media is quiet. No one is calling the police headquarters.

“All the other motorists who were there didn’t take pictures or videos. None of the motorists whom the policeman was helping made any attempt to stop the driver. Are policemen not humans? Don’t we also have family members? No one could even pursue the hit-and-run driver.”

However, Odutola reported that the cop’s body had been deposited in the teaching hospital morgue.
